Claims

Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:

1. A splash guard unit adaptable for fastening to the underside of the seat of a toilet bowl in the form of two panels, in generally parallel alignment, each joined to a circular-shaped common rim, said rim of a size to mount to the underside of a toilet seat hingeably fitted to a toilet bowl with each panel shaped to extend from the common rim about the side of the toilet bowl in the installed position, with

Each panel of a size and shape to extend, in the upraised position of an attached toilet seat about an area bounded by the side of the toilet seat, a line extending from the forward section of the toilet bowl, a line along an external side of the rim of the toilet bowl from the front of the toilet bowl to the rear of the toilet bowl and a line joining the rear of the rim of the toilet bowl to the rear of the toilet seat so that the two panels in the upraised position form side enclosures about an open toilet bowl to prevent splashing about the sides of the toilet bowl when the toilet bowl is employed as a urinal with the toilet seat in the upraised position

said panels extending adjacent to the external sides of the toilet bowl when the toilet seat is rotated to rest on the toilet bowl rim.
Description

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION:

My invention relates to a splash shield for use with a toilet bowl, and particularly to a splash shield which is formed of panels that are fastened to the underside of a toilet seat and extend downward on each side of the toilet bowl.

The advantage of my is that when the attached toilet seat is raised to a vertical position, the upraised splash shield forms a splash guard panel on each side of the toilet bowl to convert the toilet to a splash guarded urinal.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING:

The objects and features of the invention may be understood with reference to the following detailed description of an illustrative embodiment of the invention, taken together with the accompanying drawings in which:

FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the invention installed on a toilet;

FIG. 2 is a side view of the invention installed on a toilet with the seat in the down position;

FIG. 3 is a side view of the invention installed on a toilet with the seat in a raised position; and

FIG. 4 is an elevation view of the splash guard unit.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT:

Turning now descriptively to the drawings, in which similar reference characters denote similar elements throughout the several views, FIG. 4 illustrates the splash guard 10 which is formed of two side panels 11 joined together to a horseshoe shaped rim 12 of a size to fasten to the underside of a conventional toilet seat 20 pivotably mounted to a toilet bowl 25.

As shown in FIGS. 1--3, the panels 11 are spaced on the rim 12 to fit snugly about the sides of the exterior rim 26 of the toilet bowl so that when the seat is raised, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 3, the panels form a side wall splash guard on each side of the toilet bowl rim 26, extending from below the toilet bowl rim to the upraised seat 20.

In the upraised position shown in FIGS. 1 and 3, the toilet bowl 25 may be employed as a urinal with the panels 11 of the unit 10 serving as sanitary splash deflectors.

As shown in FIG. 2, with the toilet seat in the horizontal position, the splash guards extend over the sides of the toilet bowl 25 to permit customary use of the toilet.

Since obvious changes may be made in the specific embodiment of the invention described herein, such modifications being within the spirit and scope of the invention claimed, it is indicated that all matter contained herein is intended as illustrative and not as limiting in scope.
