Cabinet with at least one withdrawable part
Abstract
A cabinet having a withdrawable drawer (2) and a rope (7)
attached thereto for relieving upper and lower guides (4, 5) for
the drawer from stresses. The rope is led around rollers (6b, 6c)
on a lower relief rod (6) which is displaceably guided in the lower
guide and itself forms a guide on which the drawer is displaceable.
An upper relief rod (3) is displaceable in the upper guide.

engagable with the upper guide.
Description
This invention relates to a cabinet comprising at least one
withdrawable part such as a pivotable frame section for carrying
sheetshaped objects such as drawings, maps or the like, said
cabinet further comprising one upper and one lower guide for the
part, wheels or rollers interacting with the guides and
facilitating withdrawal of the part, and means for partly relieving
the guides from stresses upon withdrawal of the part, said means
comprising a rope which is led around rollers located at the upper
and lower inside edge of the frame of the cabinet.
Swedish patent 221,805 and Swiss patent 469,460 describe cabinets
of this kind which, however, are not quite satisfactory especially
when the withdrawable part is heavy.
One object of the present invention is to substantially relieve the
stresses acting on the guides in the withdrawn position of the
withdrawable part and still guide the part in a satisfactory
manner.
In accordance with the invention this object is fulfilled in that a
rope is led around at least two rollers which are carried on a
lower relief rod, the relief rod being displaceably guided in the
lower guide and itself forming a guide on which the withdrawable
part is displaceable.
Due to the fact that the rope is led around the rollers on a lower
relief rod a substantial relieving of the stresses is achieved.
Further, a better guidance of the withdrawable part has been
accomplished so that it is possible to have it withdrawn fully
outside of the cabinet without any problems in pushing it back
again. This is of special advantage when the withdrawable part
comprises a storage frame provided with a pivotable frame section
which is filled with stored objects such as drawings. Handles on
adjacent storage frames will then not undesirably form an obstacle
to pivotable frame parts when they are swung to horizontal
positions.
Another advantage is that in the withdrawn position of the
withdrawable part access to the rope is accomplished in an easy way
so that it is not necessary to disconnect the whole cabinet if the
rope has to be loosened or lightened.
Further distinguishing features and advantages of an improvement
according to the invention will become apparent from the following
description of an embodiment thereof, wherein reference is made to
the accompanying drawings.
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a cabinet provided with a number of
withdrawable storage frames.
FIG. 2 is a section through a storage frame for a cabinet according
to FIG. 1.
FIG. 3 is a perspective view of a storage frame and appurtenant
cabinet guides, showing the storage frame in the withdrawn
position.
FIGS. 4-7 are sections along the lines 4--4, 5--5, 6--6 and 7--7 in
FIG. 3.
A cabinet 1 is provided with a number of withdrawable storage
frames 2. Each and every one of these is preferably provided with a
pivotable frame section (not shown) for carrying objects such as
drawings, maps or the like. The pivotable frame section is then
swingable between a horizontal position in which convenient
handling of the stored objects can take place and a vertical
position in which the objects are held closely packed, suspended
one under another.
The withdrawable frame section 2 interacts with an upper guide 4
located in the cabinet and a lower guide 5. Carried in the lower
guide 5 is a roller 5a, against which rests a relief rod 6 which is
displaceable in relation to both the lower guide 5 and the frame 2.
Mounted on either side in the inner end of the relief rod 6 is a
roller 6a, which runs in the guide 5. Mounted on either side in the
outer end of the relief rod, which is inserted in a sectional part
2" serving as a guide and belonging to the frame 2, is a roller
6d.
Also mounted in the lower relief rod 6 are two rollers 6b and 6c,
respectively, which rollers are provided with peripheral grooves
and whose function will be explained hereinafter.
Located in the upper guide 4 is an upper relief rod 3 which is
displaceable both in relation to the guide 4 and in relation to the
frame 2. The outer end of the upper relief rod 3 forms part of an
upper sectional part 2' serving as a guide and belonging to the
frame 2. Carried in the uppeer relief rod 3 are rollers 3a, these
rollers being rotatable around horizontal shafts and engaging
against the sectional part 2'. Also mounted in the relief rod 3 are
rollers 3b, these rollers being rotatable around vertical shafts,
one of them engaging with one vertical side 4a of the guide 4 while
the other engages with its other vertical side 4b. Alternatively,
both rollers 3b can have such a diameter that they engage with both
of the vertical sides 4a, 4b.
Mounted at the top of the inner edge of the frame 2 is a roller 2a
and at the bottom a roller 2b. These rollers are provided with
peripheral grooves and serve as relinking rollers for a rope 7,
which at 8 is attached to the cabinet 1 in the area of the inner
end of the upper guide, the other end of the said rope being
attached at 9 in the area of the middle section of the lower guide
5. Via the rollers 2a and 2b, the rope is carried over a relinking
roller 6b in the area for the front end of the lower relief rod 6
and a further relinking roller 6c in the area for the inner end of
the rod. By means of a rope tensioner 7a, the wanted tension in the
rope can be obtained.
The arrangement of the rope 7 and the relief rods brings about a
substantial relieving of the torque which would otherwise be
exerted by the frame 2 against the guides 4 and 5 when the frame is
in its withdrawn position.
Appropriately located stop means 9 and 10 prevent the lower and
upper relief rods, respectively, from being displaced too far
outwards in relation to their guides.
A relieving device according to the invention facilitates
withdrawal and insertion of the frame 2 from and into the cabinet.
In the withdrawn position of the frame such substantial relieving
of the stresses is achieved that damage to the cabinet does not
need to be encountered even if somebody should idadvertently allow
the weight of his body to rest against the frame section in its
withdrawn position.
