Description

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The present invention is directed to a fitted carrying kit and, more particularly, it concerns a foldable carrying kit for holding cosmetic items, accessories and the like, which is suitable for carrying in the manner of a handbag.

In the past some women's handbags have had compartments for various items such as mirrors, combs, change and identification cards, however, any cosmetic items and accessories have been carried loosely in the handbag. As a result, it has often been difficult to locate a particular item and an efficient arrangement of a multiple number of items has not been possible. Furthermore, when travelling, women often need a complete selection of cosmetic items and accessories in a compact and efficient arrangement which can be easily and unobtrusively hand-carried.

Therefore, the primary object of the present invention is to provide a hand-carryable fitted kit for cosmetic items, accessories and the like.

Another object of the invention is to provide separate carrying kits which can be fastened together as a single unit or separated for individual use.

Still another object of the present invention is to afford a method for forming the fitted kit from a handknitted cover member.

In accordance with the present invention, a fitted carrying kit for cosmetic items, accessories and the like is formed of a cover member which can be folded over upon itself to form a compact hand-carryable member. On one side of the cover member, holders are provided to receive cosmetic items and accessories and when the cover member is folded, the items held are covered and the kit can be secured in a closed condition. Fastener members can be provided on the outer surface of the cover member when it is folded in the closed condition for attaching a similarly shaped but smaller carrying kit to the cover member. The smaller carrying kit has an envelope-like shape with its interior provided with resilient retainer bands forming holders for cosmetic items.

The cover member for the larger carrying kit can be formed from handcrocheted or knitted pieces of material. A rectangular shape piece of material is folded over along two opposite sides so that pockets can be formed by securing the folded over portions to the remaining portion at spaced intervals. The folded over piece of material can then be folded in the manner of the carrying kit described above and a flap crocheted or knitted of the same material can be attached to it for providing a closure flap for the kit in its folded condition.

The various features of novelty which characterize the invention are pointed out with particularity in the claims annexed to and forming a part of this disclosure. For a better understanding of the invention, its operating advantages and specific objects attained by its use, reference should be had to the accompanying drawings and descriptive matter in which there are illustrated and described preferred embodiments of the invention.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

In FIG. 1 a larger fitted carrying kit 2 and a smaller fitted carrying kit 4 are connected together as a single handbag unit. For convenience, however, the two carrying kits 2, 4 can be separated from one another and used as individual handbag members.

In FIG. 2 the larger fitted carrying kit 2 is shown in its normal folded carrying condition. The carrying kit 2 is formed of a cover member 6 having a first or inner surface 8, note FIG. 3, and a second or outer surface 10, note FIG. 4. The inner surface 8 and the outer surface 10 are joined together to form a pocket or pouch 12 with a zipper 14 provided along one side of the carrying kit for providing access to the pocket 12. The pocket 12 can be lined with a water-proof material so that face cloths and similar items can be stored in the pocket.

As can be seen in FIG. 1, in the folded condition, the cover member 6 has three sections 6a, 6b and 6c. These sections each extend for approximately one third of the length of the cover member 6, note the fold lines 16 in FIG. 3. Section 6b of the cover member 6 is provided with a strip of resilient band 18 fixed to the cover member at spaced positions to provide a series of loops 18a extending across the cover member into which cosmetic items or accessories can be fitted and secured such as shown by the items indicated in dot-dash lines.

The cover member is formed of a flexible material so that it can be folded and any number of different types of materials can be used. When the carrying kit is being used as a make-up accessory, it is in the opened condition indicated in FIG. 3. Though the items are shown held only on the middle section 6b of the cover member, it can be appreciated that other items could also be held on the sections 6a and 6c. When not in use, the cover member 6 can be folded up so that its first or inner surface 8 is located inwardly and its second or outer surface 10 faces outwardly. To secure the carrying kit 2 in the closed or folded condition snap fasteners are provided along side edges of the cover member on the inner and outer surfaces for engagement when the carrying kit 2 is folded as shown in FIGS. 1 and 2. In addition to the snap fasteners 20, other snap fasteners 22 are attached to the outside surface 10 of the cover member for engagement with similar snap fasteners 24 fixed to the outside surface of the smaller carrying kit 4. In FIG. 5, it can be noted that the snap fasteners 24 are shown in dotted lines on the rear surface of the kit, that is the opposite side from the flap 26. In FIG. 6 the flap 26 is shown opened revealing the interior of the carrying kit which has an envelope-like shape in the manner of a small flap-closed handbag. Resilient bands 28 are secured to the interior of the envelope-shaped carrying kit 6 to provide holder means for cosmetic items such as indicated in dotted lines in the drawing. Further, a zipper 30 is located in the front face or side of the kit 4 closing a pocket within the kit. This pocket can be used for loose items such as change or paper currency and the like. A chain 32 is attached at one end to the inside of the carrying kit and at its other end a change or token carrier 34 is provided which can be removed from the carrying kit but is attached to it to prevent loss. The snap fasteners 36 are provided on the flap and on the front face of the carrying kit 6 for securing the flap when access to the interior of the kit is not required. The material of the smaller carrying kit 4 is generally the same as that of the larger carrying kit to provide a coordinated unit.

In FIGS. 7 to 9 another embodiment of the carrying kit 2 is shown which can be formed by handcrocheting or handknitting a cover member 40. The materials for handcrocheting or handknitting the cover member could be purchased in kit form and made according to instructions contained in the kit. First, two rectangularly shaped members 42, 44 are formed with the member 42 being considerably larger than the member 44. The member 42 has two pair of oppositely disposed sides 46, 46 and 48, 48 with sides 46, 46 being longer than sides 48, 48. Two portions of the member 42 each extending along one of its sides 46 are folded over onto the same side of the member and the folded over portions 50, 50 are secured to the remainder of the member 42 at spaced positions along their length for forming pockets 52 into which cosmetic items and accessories can be fitted, note the dotted lines in FIG. 9 indicating the various pockets and the dotted showing of cosmetic items or accessories within these pockets.

The member 44 is attached along one of the sides 48 of the member 42 for providing a flap when the cover member 40 is folded as shown in FIG. 7. The cover member 40 is folded in the same manner as the cover member 6 and the member or flap 44 can be connected by snap fastener or the like to member 42 for maintaining the flap in the closed position. The size of the members 42, 44 can be selected in accordance with the desired size of the carrying kit in the folded condition. Moreover, the pockets 52 formed in the member 42 can be arranged in accordance with the individual cosmetic items and accessories which are to be fitted into the kit.

While specific embodiments of the invention have been shown and described in detail to illustrate the application of the inventive principles, it will be understood that the invention may be embodied otherwise without departing from such principles.
