Claims
What I claim is:
1. A bench rest device for firearms, comprising an elongated base
member, a cross-bar member carried by one end of said base member
with leg portions and feet portions for stability upon a surface, a
sleeve member carried by said base member with shaft means for
mounting said sleeve member to said base, an extension carried by
said sleeve member with a yoke for supporting and embracing a
rifle, a pivotable forward member carried by said sleeve member of
said device with an adjustable yoke portion for supporting a
fore-end of the rifle and turnbuckle means for elevating the
forward member to any desired elevation.
2. A combination according to claim 1, wherein said cross-bar
member is secured fixedly to said base member, the opposite end of
said base member including a single leg portion, the combination of
said leg portions providing lateral stability and elevation for
said base member, said sleeve member being pivotably and slidably
carried upon said shaft means, said shaft means being secured to
said base member by nut fastener means.
3. A combination according to claim 2, wherein the extension of
said sleeve member provides the support for said rifle and said
yoke is forked at one end and includes a shaft portion at the other
end slidably and rotatably supported from said extension, the shaft
portion being vertically slidable relative to said extension and
releasably securable at any elevation by a set screw carried within
the end of said extension of said sleeve member and engaged with
said shaft portion, said sleeve member upon said shaft means being
secured in position on said shaft means by an adjustable set screw
carried by said sleeve member, engageable with said shaft means and
having knurled knob means for providing a braking effect for said
extension and the pivotable forward member, said pivotable forward
member being secured to an extending lug of said sleeve member by
nut and bolt fastener means and the opposite end of said forward
member includes said adjustable yoke having set screw means for
width adjustment and both the forward yoke portion and the rear
yoke being cushioned on the interior by a rubber so as to protect
the fore-end of a firearm and the rear end of a firearm received
within said device.
4. A combination according to claim 3, wherein lug members of said
forward member and said sleeve member pivotably carry the
corresponding ends of said turnbuckle thus enabling said turnbuckle
to be manually adjustable by the shooter so as to enable said
pivotable forward member to ascend and descend to any desired
elevation.
Description
This invention relates to firearm support device, and more
particularly to a bench rest device for firearms.
It is therefore the principal object of this invention to provide a
bench rest device for firearms which will support the entire gun so
as to enable the shooter to more accurately fire the gun while
shooting in a normal position.
Another object of this invention is to provide a device of the type
described, which will eliminate the need for the shooter to carry
sand bags to the shooting site, will be sturdy, neat in appearance
and compact.
Another object of this invention is to provide a bench rest device
which will support the entire gun and will be quickly and easily
adjustable so as to enable the shooter to quickly align the gun
sight with the target.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a bench rest
device which will have a three point base which will give it
lateral stability, the base including sleeve and shaft means for
supporting the rubber cushioned yoke members that support the stock
and the fore-end of the firearm.
An even further object of this invention is to provide a bench rest
device of the type described, which will have the forward member
quickly adjustable by turnbuckle means and the forward yoke portion
will also have an adjustment screw for varying the width of the
forward yoke portion.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a bench rest
device for firearms, which will be simple in design, inexpensive to
manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in
operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the
following specifications and the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a side view of the present invention shown in elevation
and partly broken away, with the firearm shown in phantom lines;
and
FIG. 2 is a top plan view of FIG. 1 showing the firearm removed
therefrom.
According to this invention a bench rest device 10 is shown to
include an elongated metal base 11 having a cross-bar member 12
fixedly secured to one end thereof. Extending from cross-bar member
12 at its ends, are leg portions 13 and a leg portions 14 extends
from the opposite end of base 11, the leg portion 13 and 14 having
feet members 15 secured fixedly thereto for supporting the base 11
from a bench or other surface. A sleeve member 16 carried by the
main shaft 17 which is secured to base 11 by means of a nut
fastener 18 against a washer 19. A set screw 20 carried by sleeve
member 16, provides drag brake means so as to prevent the upper
structure from rotating too freely.
An extension 21 of sleeve member 16 carries shaft 22 which is
provided with a rubber cushioned and U-shaped yoke 23 for receiving
and supporting the stock 24 of the rifle 25. A set screw 26 is
received threadably within the end of extension 21 and provides
encroaching means against the shaft 22 so as to enable the yoke 23
to be elevated to any desired position.
A lug portion 27 of sleeve member 16 receives the end 28 of a
forward member 29 and member 29 is secured to the lug 27 pivotably
by means of bolt fastener 30 and nut fastener 31. At the opposite
end of forward member 29 is secured an adjustable rubber cushioned
yoke portion 32 having an adjustment screw 33 for varying the width
of yoke portion 32 which supports the fore-end 35 or barrel 34 of
rifle 25.
A turnbuckle 36 provides adjustment means for the elevation of
forward member 29. Turnbuckle 36 is secured to lug 37 of forward
member 29 and is secured to lug 38 of sleeve member 16 by means of
pins 39.
In use, a rifle 25 is placed with its fore-end 35 within the rubber
cushioned yoke portion 32 which is adjustable as to width by means
of screw 33. The stock 24 of rifle 25 is placed in the rubber
cushioned yoke 23 and the elevation of the fore-end 35 is
adjustable by means of the turnbuckle 36. The elevation of yoke 23
is accomplished by means of the set screw 26 within the end of
extension 21 of sleeve 16.
