Claims

What I claim is:

1. An appliance for facilitating erection of the penis comprising:

a main body portion having a front and rear wall and an opening extending from said front wall to said rear wall; and

means extending inwardly of the opening for reducing egress of blood from the penis while allowing a substantially normal ingress of blood thereto, said means comprising a pair of spaced apart ribs extending longitudinally between said front and said rear walls providing an arterial bypass in the upper region of the opening and a pair of spaced apart rib-like members providing a urethae cradle in the lower region of the opening.

2. The invention claimed in claim 1 wherein said body portion is formed of a pliable elastomeric material.

3. The invention defined in claim 2 wherein said material is natural rubber.

4. The invention defined in claim 1 wherein said spaced apart ribs are formed on an arc of 3 millimeters radius, and said spaced apart rib-like members are formed on an arc of 8 millimeters radius.

5. The invention defined in claim 1 including finger grasping tabs extending laterally from said main body.

6. The invention defined in claim 5 wherein said tabs are provided with depressions to facilitate manipulation of the appliance.
Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The penis, a male organ of copulation, is made up of three cylindrical masses of erectile tissue, covered by skin and subcutaneous tissue without fat.

Two of the tissue masses are lateral and known as the corpora cavernosa and the third mass is median and is known as the corpus cavernosum urethrae because it contains the urethea.

The tissue masses are termed cavernous because of the relatively large size of the venous spaces existing in the tissue. The tissue is referred to as erectile tissue because the venous spaces may become distended with blood during sexual excitement causing the penis to become firm and erect. An an increase in blood supplied to the tissue occurs, the process is known as an erection. As the male ages, the above process may lessen and even at times due to various reasons other than age, become so reduced as to make the male organ completely incompetent or impotent. Such impotency causes great concern to the person thus involved and poses a very definite threat to the marriage union.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

An object of the invention is to produce an appliance for use by the male to overcome the above referred flaw in the male nature, whether the condition is of a temporary or permanent period.

The object is achieved by an appliance which reacts on the circulatory blood flow in a manner which, in effect, will impede the flow of blood from the penis and simultaneously not materially impede the flow of blood to the organ.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

The above, as well as other objects and advantages of the invention will become readily apparent from reading the following detailed description of an embodiment of the invention when considered in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:

FIG. 1 is a front elevational view of an appliance embodying the features of the invention;

FIG. 2 is a side view of the appliance as illustrated in FIG. 1;

FIG. 3 is a top view of the appliance illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2; and

FIG. 4 is a sectional view of the invention illustrated in FIGS. 1, 2 and 3 taken along 4--4 of FIG. 1.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

Referring to the drawings, there is illustrated an appliance, generally indicated by reference numeral 10, to be used by the human male to facilitate erection of the penis. The appliance 10 is typically formed of a soft, pliable elastomeric material, such as suitably compounded natural rubber having a 30 Durometer rating and a 2,000 PSI tensile strength.

The appliance 10 includes an annular center body portion 12 having finger grasping side tab portions 14 and 16. The side tab portions 14 and 16 are provided with depressions 18 and 20, respectively, to facilitate the manipulation of the device by the user as will be explained in greater detail hereinafter.

The annular center body portion 12 has an opening which extends from the front surface 22 to the rear surface 24. Extending generally radially inwardly from the interior wall of the annular body portion 12 is a pair of spaced apart ribs 26 and 28, the exposed inner surfaces of which are smoothly curved in the shape of a section of a generally right circular cylinder, the axes of which extend perpendicularly to the front and rear surfaces 22 and 24, respectively. The ribs 26 and 28 are spaced apart in order of 8 mm. to form an arterial ingress bypass 29.

On the lower inner surface of the annular center body portion, is a pair of spaced apart inwardly extending rib-like members 30 and 32 which are of a more gentle curvature than the opposing ribs 26 and 28. Similarly to the configuration of the ribs 26 and 28, the rib-like members 30 and 32 are in the shape of a section of a right circular cylinder of a larger diameter than the ribs 26 and 28.

In a preferred embodiment, the curvature of the ribs 26 and 28 is formed on an arc of a 3 mm. radius, the curvature of the rib-like members 30 and 32 is formed on an arc of an 8 mm. radius. The approximate diameter of the annular opening in the center body portion 12 is of the order of 22 mm. The length of the appliance is 58 mm., the width 35 mm., and the depth 15 mm.

In operation, the appliance 10 is fitted over the penis usually with the assistance of a suitable lubricant such as a petroleum jelly or the like. The appliance 10 is typically grasped by the side tab portions 14 and 16 and slipped from the distal to the proximal end of the penis. The appliance 10 is disposed, during installation and use, with the ribs 26 and 28 positioned above the rib-like members 30 and 32 as illustrated in FIG. 1. When the appliance 10 is properly seated, the penis is supplied with an influx of blood through the extensions of the femoral and hypergastric or internal illiac arteries which typically are situated in the region between the ribs 26 and 28 allowing the normal rate of influx of blood flow to the penis. The space between the ribs 26 and 28 establishes an arterial bypass permitting the normal rate of influx of the blood to the cavernous venous tissue of the penis. In the situation where the male human is experiencing impotency, as the incoming blood continues to fill the spongy-like tissue, the venal system allows the blood to pass back and completely out of the tissue. However, with the appliance 10 properly positioned on the penis, the ribs 26 and 28 function as right and left corpora cavernosa resistors and effectively reduce the egress of blood from the spongy cavernous tissue of two of the cylindrical masses, while the rib-like members 30 and 32 cooperate to provide a urethae cradle and have a similar function to reduce the egress of blood from the median cylindrical tissue masses on either side of the urethrae. The configuration of the rib-like members 30 and 32 does not curtail, but rather permits, free egress of the seminal fluids.

Accordingly, it will be appreciated that substantially a normal unrestricted flow of blood is permitted to enter the tissue of the penis primarily through the arterial system in the region the arterial ingress bypass 29, while the venal blood flow from the tissue is restricted by the cooperative relation of the spaced apart ribs 26 and 28 and the substantially diametrically spaced apart rib-like members 30 and 32.

In accordance with the provisions of the patent statutes, I have explained the principle and mode of operation of my invention and have illustrated and described what I now consider to represent its best embodiment. However, it is to be understood that within the spirit and scope of the appended claims the invention may be practiced otherwise than as specifically illustrated and described.
