TANGLE FREE WIRE HOLDER
Abstract
A device for storing extension wires used with electrical
appliances. This device is boardlike in configuration and
eliminates tangles in the wire which normally causes damage to the
wire. The device consists of a boardlike affair having V-slotted
openings at each end to accommodate the wire, one edge of the
device having a pair of spaced-apart and keyhole shape configurated
openings for the insertion of the wire at the end of the male and
female plugs of the wire, the opposite edge having an elongated
opening which serves as a handle for the board.

Claims
What I now claim is:
1. A cord winding device for storing an electrical extension wire
cord in a manner to prevent tangling of the wire cord comprising an
elongated, flat, substantially solid member generally defining an
elongated rectangle, said member having two identical and directly
opposed, isosceles-triangularly and wedge shaped cutouts on its
shorter sides, the apex of each triangularly shaped cutout being
rounded off in a smooth curve, and having two, spaced channels
having parallel sides extending into and from one of its longer
sides, said spaced channels forming acute angles with the longer
sides from which they extend, identical in degree but opposite in
direction, each of said channels ending in a circular hole having a
diameter greater in dimension than the width of the channel, the
center of said hole being offset from the centerline of said
channel, the portions of the wire cord near its plug ends being
slid down said channels and placed in said circular holes for cord
storage and the body of the cord being wrapped around said member
about its longer dimension and within said opposed cutouts for cord
storage, said opposed cutouts occupying the full width of said
shorter sides thereby forming with the ends of said longer sides
legs upon which the device may be stood up, said member further
having a slot near and parallel to the same longer side from which
the channels extend to serve as a means for grasping and carrying
said device, said slot having parallel sides and ending at either
end in a smoothly flowing curve.
Description
This invention relates to cord winding devices, and more
particularly to a tangle free wire holder for extension cords and
the like.
It is therefore the main purpose of this invention to provide a
tangle free wire holder which will store extension wires that are
normally used with electrical appliances thus eliminating tangled
wire and taking up for any slack so as to provide a neat appearance
for the wire.
Another object of this invention is to provide a wire holder of the
type described which will accommodate wire of various lengths, the
wire being wound through the V-shaped slots of the board like
device, the device having openings for inserting the neck areas of
the plugs so as to render them stationary.
A further object of this invention is to provide a device for
winding wire upon which will have leg means for standing the device
up near a receptacle when all of the wire does not have to be
unwound therefrom, thus serving to prevent a tedious job of
rewinding all of the wire contained thereon.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a tangle free
wire holder which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture,
rugged in construction and easy to use and effective in
operation.
These and other objects will become readily evident upon study of
the following specification together with the accompanying drawing
wherein:
FIG. 1 is a plan view of the present invention;
FIG. 2 is a side view of FIG. 1 shown in elevation;
FIG. 3 is similar to FIG. 1, except for the positioning of the
openings and the angle of the exterior slots; and
FIG. 4 is a side elevation of FIG. 3.
According to this invention, a tangle free wire holder 10 is shown
to include an elongated flat board 11 made of plywood or other
suitable material which has a V-shaped slotted end 12 on either end
of the board 11, the slots 12 providing reception means for coils
of the extension cord placed thereupon. The board 11 is rotated end
over end to accommodate the wire within the V-shaped slots 12 and
the male plug portion of the wire (not shown) is placed in either
one of the inverted and key hole shaped configurated slots 13, and
the other female plug is placed into the other slot 13 when the
cord is wound for storage.
In use, the plug portions are removed from the slots 13 and plugged
into the appliance and the outlet, and only as much wire is unwound
from board 11 as necessary whereupon the device may be stood up
upon its end near the wall or other outlet.
An elongated slot 14 through one edge of board 11 provides handle
grip means for carrying holder 10 and the V-shaped slotted means 12
provide and define a pair of legs 15 at each end of board 11 upon
which the device will stand when it contains coils of wire while it
is being used.
Looking now at FIGS. 3 and 4 of the drawing, one will see a
modified form of wire holder 16 which includes an elongated board
17 having slotted ends 18 and a pair of angularly positioned slots
19 for receiving the male and female plug ends of the cord that is
wound upon holder 16. Board 17 is also provided with an elongated
slot 20 which provides handle grip means for carrying holder 16 and
the slotted ends 18 form legs 21 in a similar manner as heretofore
described on the main embodiment of the present invention.
