STEREO HOPE CHEST
Abstract
A stereo hope chest lined with cedar and having a record player
or cartridge tape player, and a tuner. The chest includes two
sidewalls, a backwall, a front wall and an extreme bottom portion
with a false bottom defining a space between the chest interior and
the extreme bottom. A recessed opening is provided in the front
wall adjacent to a sidewall, and a speaker for the stereo unit is
provided in the space between the false bottom and the extreme
bottom adjacent to the recessed opening, which speaker is covered
by a decorative grill. The space between the false bottom in the
chest interior and the extreme bottom portion also provides an
opening into which a storage drawer is installed. A partition
separates the chest interior partitions and a cover for creating a
covered cavity serving as a storage space. The lid of the chest is
attached to the backwall by means of a hinge.

system and/or tape player and a tuner, said large drawer having a
bottom, two vertical sidewalls, a mounting board which accommodates
the record and/or tape player and amplifier, and two inner walls so
as to provide three small compartments, one of which is for at
least one of said speakers and recessed tuner, while a second
compartment is for storage and having an opening in said sidewall
in alignment with said inner walls, a back wall is secured to said
two vertical sidewalls and said mounting board, and said drawer
having track means on the bottom thereof for easy movement into or
out of said compartment.
3. A combination hope chest and stereo unit which consists of a
base, the entire length of said base being covered by a subfloor,
extending upward from said subfloor are two side walls spaced
apart, an inner wall running parallel with said sidewalls is
arranged inward a short distance from one of said sidewalls and a
front wall spaced apart are secured to said sidewalls and said
inner wall thus creating two compartments with one compartment

false floor, the smaller of said two compartments having movably
arranged therein a large drawer housing a stereo system and/or tape
player and a tuner, said large drawer has a bottom, two vertical
sidewalls, a mounting board which accommodates the record and/or
tape player and amplifier, and two inner walls so as to provide
three small compartments, one of which is for at least one of said
speakers and recessed tuner, while a second compartment is for
storage and having an opening in said two vertical sidewalls and
said mounting board and said drawer having track means on the
bottom thereof for easy movement into or out of said compartment,
and two decorative grills, which are substantially equal in size
and matching in style, for covering the front of said large drawer
and a recessed opening on the opposite end of said front wall
behind which is at least one said speaker, and said small storage
drawer is covered with an appropriately sized, similar grill.
Description
This invention relates to improvements in combining a storage chest
or the like with a record player or a cartridge tape player and/or
tuner.
The primary object of this invention is to combine a chest, which
is often referred to as a "hope chest" and most often lined with an
aromatic material such as cedar or the like, with a record player
or a cartridge tape player, and a tuner.
While I have illustrated by the accompanying drawings one facial
design or style of the chest, I want to emphasize that this
invention is capable of variations both in the facial design and
the type of wood and/or material used without departing from the
spirit of the invention. I therefore do not wish to be limited to
the precise details of facial design set forth in accompanying
drawings, but desire to avail this invention of such variations and
modifications as demands or manufacturing require.
The invention will be best understood by reference to accompanying
drawing.
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the invention with four components
parts separated for a more detailed view.
FIG. 2 is a mounting board for cartridge tape player or
stereophonic and/or monaural record player and/or tuner.
FIG. 3 is a player drawer that supports the mounting board,
provides storage area, and houses one speaker.
FIG. 4 is a storage drawer.
FIG. 5 is a decorative grill cover.
FIG. 6 is a perspective view of the invention with parts in place,
and with player drawer extended for detailed view.
In construction of the chest as shown in FIG. 1 the fundamental
procedure, to assemble the two ends, back, face, and extreme
bottom, is in the same manner as construction of any fine
furniture.
The partition 19 separates the chest interior 14 from the cavity
16a which houses the player drawer 16 shown in FIG. 3. The lid 13
is attached to the back of the chest by a hinge 26. The cover 18
over the player drawer 16 shown in FIG. 3 is stationary.
The space created between the false bottom 10 in the chest interior
14 only, and the extreme bottom 22, serves several purposes. The
wires needed to operate speaker 11a are concealed in same space.
The space created between the false bottom 10 in the chest interior
14 only, and the extreme bottom 22 also provides an opening 12a
into which a storage drawer 12 shown in FIG. 4 is installed. The
construction of the said drawer is of the same construction as in
any fine furniture.
The space between the false bottom 10 and the extreme bottom 22
adjacent to recessed opening 21 houses speaker 11a and said speaker
is covered with decorative grill 15 shown in FIG. 5. Said
decorative grill is secured firmly to the recessed opening by means
of four screws from the interior of chest 14 shown in FIG. 1 to
said decorative grill 15, thus allowing easy access to speaker
11a.
In this particular facial design or style of chest, the face of the
grill 15 shown in FIG. 5, drawer 12 shown in FIG. 4, and player
drawer 16 shown in FIG. 3 all match. This is a flexible idea of
this invention, as any design preferred may be carried out equally
well.
The player drawer 16 shown in FIG. 3 is also constructed basically
as in any fine furniture. By installation of two wall-like
partitions 24 shown in FIG. 3 and cover 27 shown in FIG. 3, a
covered cavity is created, and this cavity serves as a storage
space 20 for record albums, or cartridge tapes while same are not
in use.
The opening 25 shown in FIG. 3 created between the decorative grill
15 and first partition 24 extends to the bottom of the player
drawer 16 and provides easy access to speaker 11. Said opening also
provides space for installation of tuner 28 shown in FIG. 3.
The mounting board 23 shown in FIG. 2 is capable of supporting any
one of the musical components previously described, and is secured
onto the four walls of player drawer 16 shown in FIG. 3 by use of
four screws.
The cavity to house player 16a shown in FIG. 1 has only an extreme
bottom 22. Mounted in a central position at the bottom and secured
on the front and back of said cavity is a track 17. The track is a
roller-type guide, and whose counterpart is mounted on extreme
bottom of player drawer 16 and enables same to easily glide into
storage position, or out position for easy accessibility to
operating controls of the player and other components.
In reference to FIG. 6, the assembled parts are viewed as a
finished product with the lid 13 in open position and player drawer
16 in open position.
