DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0027] Lightening or highlighting of hair has been around for
centuries, but the methods of applying the bleach or lightening
solutions to hair has generally changed. For example, mainstream
changes have typically shifted from cap coloring techniques to
foils, thrown away after use. Removal of each foil can be time
consuming, and cause the user/stylist to come in contact with the
bleaching/lightening solution, and after the foils are removed,
they are thrown away in the trash.
[0028] The subject biodegradable hair sheets provide advantages
over current foils as the subject sheets are made of biodegradable
material for environmentally friendly applications. Owing to the
biodegradability, the subject hair sheets do not have to be removed
from the hair, but can be directly rinsed from the hair at the time
the bleach/highlighting solution is being rinsed, thus saving time
and mitigating environmental waste. Preferably, the biodegradable
hair sheets are composed of a water-soluble synthetic polymer, such
as polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH, PVA or PVAl), cellulose starch fiber
and/or combinations thereof. In one embodiment, the material of the
biodegradable hair sheet is a Poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVOH, PVA, or
PVAl) is, cellulose, starch or combinations thereof. The main body
may be formed of a single sheet, or may be formed of one or more
sheets or plies of thin biodegradable material.
[0029] The biodegradable hair sheet/or sheets may be made from one
or more recyclable materials, compostable materials, sustainable
materials, biodegradable materials, plant-based material, and the
like that are dissolvable in water. Biodegradable polymers,
biodegradable polyesters, biodegradable polyurethanes,
biodegradable starches, biodegradable cellulosic materials,
biodegradable aliphatic polyesters, and the like are also
contemplated. Other contemplated materials include water
dissolvable materials composed of bamboo or wood pulp or bagasse
and/or thin films that are bonded by way of starch and readily
dissolve in water. In an embodiment, the biodegradable sheets are
made from non-woven poly (vinyl alcohol), optionally, impregnated
with active ingredients. These active ingredients may include hair
color agents, with dyes and/or pigments, hair lightening/bleaching
agents and/or hair treatment agents.
[0030] Ripples or textures are preferably integrated on the surface
and/or body of the subject biodegradable hair sheets for securing
the sheets in place while applied on the hair during lightening or
highlighting. The texture may be formed through heat or mechanical
methods. Texture may be formed by stamping, embossing, needle
punching, coating, and/or thermal bonding wherein fibers of the
sheet are formed having different thickness to form textures or
patterns. The texture may be formed as a thin textures or formed
sheet attached to the first surface of the main body. The texture
facilitates in saturation of the hair dye/coloring agent and/or
highlighting/bleaching agents around the hair while also aiding in
securing the hair sheet to the hair when in the closed
configuration. Advantageously, when the lightening or highlighting
application is complete, the user or hairstylist can simply rinse
the hair with the biodegradable sheets and hair lightening agent
applied directly into a sink or waste water basin.
[0031] FIG. 1 illustrates a top plan view of an embodiment of the
biodegradable hair sheet, shown generally at 10. FIG. 2 illustrates
the biodegradable hair sheet of FIG. 1 being folded or rolled to a
closed configuration and secured by way of fasteners, herein shown
as foldable tabs. FIG. 3 illustrates use of the biodegradable hair
sheet of FIG. 1.
[0032] Referring to FIG. 1-3, the biodegradable hair sheet 10 is
formed having a planar main body 11 with a first surface 12, which
is the surface adapted to engage with a hair section, and a second
surface 13, or back exterior surface. First surface 12 has a
texture 14 thereon which may be formed as a separate biodegradable
sheet layer, or from one or more stamped, raised or embossed
portions on the first surface, or from a coating on first surface
12. Texture 14 is herein shown formed as a plurality of alternating
elongated ridges 14a and valleys 14b. Texture 14 can be formed in a
plethora of dots, shapes and/or designs or patterns. Wherein
texture 14 is a coating, preferably the coating is sprayed on the
first surface 12 and is formed of a biodegradable, inert, friction
material, such as for non-limiting a starch, cellulose, PVOH or
combination thereof.
[0033] Texture 14 preferably substantially is integrated in/located
over and/or covers the first surface 12 of the main body 11 so that
the first surface 12 provides a large surface area of texture 14.
The texture 14 on the first surface 12 provides friction against
the hair strands of the selected hair portion, while providing ease
of application of the hair color and/or bleach agent (lightening
agent) to the hair and elongated valleys and ridges 14b, 14a
facilitate in holding hair and delivering the agent to the hair
strands for enhanced application. After applying the hair color
and/or bleach/lightening agent to the hair, the biodegradable hair
sheet 10 is folded or rolled as demonstrated in FIGS. 2 and 3.
[0034] Main body 11 is appointed to receive a portion of hair 30 on
the first surface 12 and texture 14 thereon in an open
configuration. The biodegradable hair sheet 10 includes at least
one fastener 20 for securing the main body 11 in a closed
configuration, as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3. The biodegradable hair
sheet 10 is composed of a material that degrades in water, so that,

the hair color or lightening agent is embedded on or within the
main body 11 of the biodegradable hair sheet 10, and a developer
for activation of the hair color or lightening agent is applied.
Main body 11 may be formed as a single ply sheet, or alternatively
formed by one or more thin sheet. The main body 11 structure
remains when application of the hair color and/or hair lightening
agent/or hair treatment agent is applied to the hair. It is noted
that the sheet main include one or more hair treatment agents
integrated therein, such as conditioning agents. The subject
biodegradable hair sheet may be used for a plethora of hair
applications and/or treatments, including hair coloring, dying,
lightening, conditioning, balayage, highlighting and/or hair
painting. Main body 11 may include fold or partition lines and or
perforations for ease in folding, and/or tearing to adjust the
length of the main body/sheet to make the sheet longer and/or
shorter.
[0037] Application of the developer may be through brush or paint
application, and/or spray application. Wherein the sheet includes
one or more hair color agent and/or lightening agent integrated
therein, the agent may be spray coated on the top/first surface
texture of the main sheet, and/or integrated in the fibers forming
the sheet, such as through saturation of the fibers in a vat and
then formation of the sheets for interstitial bonding of the dye
agent or bleach agent in the sheets fibers. Hair color agents may
include direct dyes, pigment and/or oxidative dyes. The developer
may be brushed onto the hair section and sheet and/or sprayed onto
the hair section and/or sheet. It is noted that in this embodiment,
the sheet may be slightly thicker and/or include a second sheet or
thin film barrier layer so that the sheet does not dissolve, or
only minimally dissolves, with spray application of the developer,
and ultimately dissolves during rinsing with copious amounts of
water.
[0038] In the embodiment shown, the fastener 20 comprises one or
more foldable tabs 21 appointed to lock the main body 11 in place
when the main body 11 is in the closed configuration during
application of the hair color and/or bleach/lightening agent, as

or interstitially integrated within main body 211. Next, the
biodegradable hair sheet 200 is then rolled or folded and is
pressed to deform metal strip 222 to secure the rolled or folded
biodegradable hair sheet 200 in place in the closed configuration
for the duration of the hair color and/or hair
lightening/bleaching/highlighting process.
[0051] Texture 214 is herein shown formed as a plurality of
alternating elongated ridges as discussed hereinabove. The
biodegradable sheet 200 may include a color changing indicator for
visual indication that a hair color or lightening process is
complete.
[0052] The hair color or lightening/bleach agent may be applied to
the hair section and biodegradable hair sheet 200. Alternatively,
the hair color or lightening agent is embedded on or within the
main body 211 of the biodegradable hair sheet 200, and a spray
developer for activation of the hair color or lightening agent is
provided. Once applied to the hair, after a given period of time,
the sheet 200 can be directly rinsed or washed from the hair along
with the hair coloring or bleaching/lightening agent. Residual
metal wire 222 falls freely into the sink basin or bin, and can be
readily collected and discarded. Preferably, the biodegradable hair
sheet material is selected from one of a PVOH, cellulose, starch or
combination thereof.
