presenting the models of bands associated with the band design
files for allowing a user to select a model of setting and a model
of a band and for manufacturing a jewelry item from the selected
model of setting and from the selected model of band.
[0010] Jewelry items and ring designs, in particular, are
relatively limited due to the amount of work required to design
each product. Even the largest stores and websites offer only a few
hundred different designs that can be configured to be set in
different metals, ring sizes and set with different stones. These
are essentially mere variations of the same limited number of
designs. By design, we are referring to the 3d physical shape and
style of the item or a part of the jewelry items.
[0011] One technical problem dealt with by the present disclosure
is how to provide an efficient and cost-effective production
process for producing a large variety of jewelry items which may be
customized according to the consumer's requirements and style.
[0012] One technical solution is jewelry item that includes a band
and a setting. Each band includes an opening and each setting
includes a decorative part and a connection part.
[0013] According to some embodiments the connection part of each
setting is extended from the decorative part.
[0014] According to some embodiments the 3-dimensional shape of the
connection part is equal to the 3-dimensional shape constructed or
limited by the opening of the band. According to some embodiments
the 3-dimensional shape constructed or limited by the opening of
the band includes the 3-dimensional shape of the connection part.
Examples of 3-dimensional shapes are a ball, a tetrahedron and a
cube.
[0015] According to some embodiments the one or more measures of
properties characterizing the three-dimensional shape of the
connection part are substantially equal to the one or more measures
of properties characterizing the three-dimensional shape
constructed or limited by the opening of the band. By substantially
it is meant same or up to 20% difference. The measures may include,
for example, measures of the side face, the diameter and the
like.
[0016] According to some embodiments the three-dimensional shape of
the connection part fits the three-dimensional shape constructed or
limited by the opening of the band or included in the opening of
the band. The term fits refers herein to enables the rendering of
the band and the setting as one piece jewelry item or enables the
manufacturing of the band and the setting as one piece jewelry
items.
[0017] According to some embodiments a consumer or a producer may
customize jewelry item by selecting a band from a first set of a
plurality of bands or of models of bands and by selecting a setting
from a second set of a plurality of settings or of model of
settings. The first set and the second set are characterized by the
following properties: [0018] a. The 3-dimensional shape of the
opening of all the bands from the first set is equal to the 3
dimensional shape of the connection part of all the settings of the
second set. [0019] b. The one or more measures of properties
characterizing the 3-dimensional shape of the opening of all the
bands from the first set is substantially equal to the one or more
measures of properties characterizing the three dimensional shape
of the connection parts of all the settings of the second set.
[0020] According to some embodiments the user may customize the
selected band. Examples of such band customization are adjusting
size changing color and material. According to some embodiments the
user may customize the selected setting. Examples of such setting
customization are size, color, material or, size and shape of
stone.
[0021] According some embodiments the models of the bands and the
models of the settings are designed by design tools or simulation
tools or rendering tools. Examples of such design tools are Rhino,
Matrix, Maya and Keyshot. The term model refers herein to a
representation of a three-dimensional shape via software. The
output of such a tool is a design file which may be generated for
each band and for each setting. The type of the design file may be,
for example, additive manufacturing (AM), GHS Geometry, Enhanced
Metafile and the like. In some embodiment, in order to print an
object from the design file, the design file is converted to a file
that can be printed by a manufacturing device. The manufacturing
device is configured for receiving the design file and for
manufacturing the jewelry item according to the data of the
received file. Examples of manufacturing devices are 3D printer and
CNC. In one example the format of the file is DXF (Drawing
Interchange Format).
[0022] In some other embodiments the design file is already
formatted to be used by the manufacturing device.
[0023] According to some embodiments a graphical presentation of
the models may be presented on a computing device for allowing a
consumer or a producer to design jewelry items by selecting a model
of setting and a model of a band.
[0024] In one embodiment the design file of the selected model of
the setting and the design file of the selected model of the band
are combined into one file which is sent to a manufacturing device
for printing model for then casting the jewelry item. The output of
the manufacturing device may be casted at a foundry to produce the
jewelry item as one piece.
[0025] In one other embodiment the design file of the selected
model of the setting is sent to a manufacturing device for printing
the setting while the design file of the band is sent to a
manufacturing device for printing the band. The printed band and
printed setting are, then, welded together. The welded piece is
then casted at a foundry to produce the jewelry item.
[0026] Embodiments of the present invention provide a way to create
a big variety of designs by splitting the ring design (3d shape,
structure) into 2 main parts--band and setting and ensuring all
bands fit with all settings. In one example a set of 50 bands and
60 setting may produce 3000 (50.times.60) 3d designs which may
further be customized by changing the color, size, type of stone in
the setting model; thus providing a larger variety.
[0027] Such a solution allows the manufacturer or retailer to
design significantly fewer band and setting models, resulting in
significantly more complete ring designs.
[0028] Such a solution allows the consumer to customize its jewelry
items by selecting a favorite 3d shape setting and a favorite 3d
set of band which may be further customized before being
manufactured as one piece jewelry item.
