Description of Related Art

[0004] In the cosmetics sector, the ideal packaging is one that houses, facilitates the use, protects and informs, but above all, one that pleases and leads consumers to create an identity with the mark.

[0005] Packaging for cosmetics--particularly liquid or pasty cosmetics--found in the state of the art usually comprises a lid, a product applicator, a component for removing excess product withdrawn by the applicator and a product recipient.

[0006] Such packaging comes in the most varied sizes and formats, from miniature packs containing 1.5 g to 3.5 g, to large packs containing from 3.5 g to 12 g.

[0007] To compete on the cosmetics market, manufacturers offer the same product in packages with different amounts and prices in order to satisfy consumers according to their purchasing power.

[0008] Accordingly, the packages are internal and externally modified in accordance with the amount to be stored. The risk in these modifications is that the packaging will lose its visual identity, meaning consumers may not instantly recognize it.

[0009] In addition to the visual and identity losses of the mark, there is still an economic problem consistent with the need to produce varying sizes of lids, applicators, bungs and recipients for the different amounts commercialized.

[0010] It is necessary, therefore, to obtain a cosmetic packaging, particularly liquid or pasty cosmetics, that enables the storage of different product amounts without altering the external characteristics of the packaging.

BRIEF SUMMARY

[0011] A first objective of the present invention is to provide a cosmetic packaging, particularly liquid or pasty cosmetics, which comprises a base portion consisting of a recipient and a casing, the recipient comprising a slimmer portion and having lesser volume than the casing, such that the recipient can be modified to store different amounts of said cosmetic without altering the outer characteristics of the packaging.

[0012] It is also an objective of the invention to provide a cosmetic packaging wherein at least a portion of the recipient consists of a trans-lucent or transparent material capable of enabling the product contained in the recipient to be visualized.

[0013] It is a further objective of the invention to provide a cosmetic packaging wherein the casing comprises a base portion having an opening capable of receiving and accommodating a translucent or transparent wall portion of the recipient.

[0014] A further objective of the invention is to provide a cosmetic packaging wherein the recipient is mounted in the casing, maintaining the opening of the casing aligned on a same plane as the translucent or transparent wall portion of the recipient, and this alignment is achieved by means of chamfered surfaces present on both recipient and casing that cooperate so as to centralize and firmly fasten the recipient and casing, maintaining the stability of the recipient inside the casing and providing the experience of a solid part.

[0015] The objectives of the present invention are achieved by a cosmetic packaging having a lid portion and a base portion, the base portion comprising a recipient and a casing, the recipient containing at least a slimmer portion and having a lesser volume than the casing, the slimmer portion of the recipient being insertable into the casing, at least a portion of the recipient consisting of a translucent or transparent material capable of enabling the product contained in the recipient to be visualized and the casing comprising a base portion having an opening capable of receiving and accommodating the at least a translucent or transparent portion of the recipient.

[0016] Further, the objectives of the present invention are achieved by a cosmetic packaging having a recipient comprising fitting projections and a casing comprising fitting recesses, with the assembly and the fastening between the recipient and the casing being made by means of the association between the fitting projections and the fitting recesses, occurring by interference fit.

[0017] The objectives of the present invention are also achieved by a cosmetic packaging having the recipient and the casing each comprising chamfered base portions that cooperate to centralize, align and firmly fasten the recipient in the casing, maintaining the stability of the recipient inside the casing, providing the experience of a solid part.

[0018] Further, the objectives of the present invention are achieved by a cosmetic packaging having the recipient comprising a translucent or transparent collar whose diameter is equivalent to the adjacent portions of the packaging and a closed wall consisting of a translucent or transparent material.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF VARIOUS EMBODIMENTS

[0036] With reference to the drawings, FIGS. 1, 2 and 3 show the cosmetic packaging 1 of the present invention in a mounted and closed position, preferably having a domed, cylindrical tube shape, and can take on any technical suitable format and preferably being made of polymer material or any other composition of materials suitable for manufacturing cosmetic packaging.

[0037] As can be seen, the packaging 1 of the present invention comprises a lid 2, a applicator 3, a bung 4, a recipient 5 and a casing 6, see FIG. 4.

[0038] In FIGS. 5, 6 and 7, it is possible to note the lid 2 which comprises a tubular cylindrical side wall 21 which extends axially and, at its ends, defines, by one end, a closed wall 22 which extends from the side wall 21 on an inclined plane, and, by the other end, an opening 23. The side wall 21 comprises a serrated inner surface 24 for mounting and fastening the applicator 3 on the lid 2.

[0039] FIGS. 8 and 9 illustrate the applicator 3 which comprises a cylindrical rod 31 which extends axially and, at its longitudinal ends, receives, by one end, an application brush 32 which comprises a sponge or a brush or other type of wand suitable for applying the cosmetic, and, by the other end, a cylindrical lid 33. The cylindrical lid 33 comprises a serrated outer surface 34 for mounting and fastening on the inside of the lid 2 of the packaging 1 and a threaded internal surface 35 which enables the closure of the cylindrical lid 33 with the recipient 5.

[0040] The lid 2 jointly with the applicator 3 form a lid portion of the packaging 1 and are fastened solidarily, forming a single, non-dismountable part.

[0041] The bung 4 is illustrated in FIGS. 10 and 11 and refers to a kind of retaining lid which promotes the cleaning of the application brush 32 to remove the excess product withdrawn from the recipient 5. The bung 4 has a cylindrical truncated-cone or a cylindrical dome shape or other suitable format, and defines a first open end 41 which comprises an outer tab 42 for fitting and fastening on the recipient 5, and a second open end 43 having a diameter smaller than the diameter of the first open end 41. The bung 4 is fastened on the recipient 5 also solidarily, forming a single part, such that the bung 4 is not disassembled from the recipient 5.

[0042] The main differentiating factor of the invention lies in the base portion of the packaging 1 which corresponds to the storage portion of the cosmetic comprising the recipient 5 and the casing 6, illustrated in FIGS. 12 to 16.

[0043] The recipient 5 has a cylindrical tubular side wall 51 which ex-tends axially and, at its ends, defines, by one end, a chamfered closed wall 52 and, by the other end, an opening 53. The side wall 51 comprises a height H1 which defines three different diameters:

[0044] (i) a first diameter D1 relating to the diameter of an end portion adjacent to the closed wall 52. The first diameter D1 corresponds to a slimmer portion of the recipient 5;

[0045] (ii) a second diameter D2 relating to the diameter of the opening 53; and

[0046] (iii) a third diameter D3, preferably larger than the first and second diameters D1, D2, forming a collar, and which corresponds to the diameter of the lid 2 and of the casing 6.

[0047] In the recipient 5, the transition between the first diameter D1 and the third diameter D3 is made by a ledge consisting of a height H2, measured from the closed wall 52. In the same manner, the transition between the second diameter D2 and the third diameter D3 is also made by a ledge consisting of a height H3, measured from the opening 53.

[0048] Preferably, but not compulsorily, the third diameter D3 of the recipient 5 is consistent with the diameters of the opening 23 of the lid 2 and of the open end 62 of the casing 6, assuring that when mounted and closed the packaging 1 does not present elevations and maintains a continuous surface.

[0049] Moreover, the portion corresponding to the third diameter D3 of the recipient 5 defines a height H4, measured from the height H2, being capable of keeping contact with the opening 23 of the lid 2 and with the open end 62 of the casing 6. The heights H2, H3 and H4 of the recipient 5 are variable according to each project.

[0050] The ledge comprised in the transition between the first and third diameters D1, D3 has a ring-shaped fitting projections 55. Besides the fitting projections 55, the recipient 5 further comprises at least a guide projection 56 which extends longitudinally from the fitting projections 55.

[0051] Moreover, the recipient 5 comprises a threaded outer surface 54 provided in a region adjacent to the end portion of the side wall 51, near the opening 53 for closing the lid portion with the base portion of the packaging 1.

[0052] The casing 6 has a cylindrical tubular side wall 61 which comprises an open end 62, opposite a base portion 63, and defines a height H5, measured from the base portion 63. The open end 62 defines an upright circular mouthpiece internally having ring-shaped fitting recesses 64, and the base portion 63 defines a chamfered circular opening 66. The height H5 of the casing 6 preferably corresponds to the height H2 of the recipient 5.

[0053] Further, the casing 6 comprises at least a channel 65 provided in a region adjacent to the end portion of the side wall 61, near the open end 62.

[0054] The recipient 5 is mounted and fastened in the casing 6 by way of the association between the fitting recesses 64 provided in the open end 62 of the casing 6 and as fitting projections 55 provided on the ledge comprised in height H2 of the recipient 5, occurring by interference fit. The recipient 5 is fastened in the casing 6 solidarily, forming a single, non-dismountable part.

[0055] The at least a guide projection 56 of the recipient 5 slides into the at least a channel 65 provided inside the casing 6, promoting the correct positioning of the recipient 5 in relation to the casing 6.

[0056] The opening 66 provided in the base portion 63 of the casing 6 is capable of receiving and accommodating a closed wall 52 of the recipient 5, maintaining the base portion 63 aligned on a same plane as the closed wall 52, such that the closed wall 52 pierces the thickness of the side wall 61 of the casing 6. In other words, both the recipient and the casing are at the same level in the portion of the base, which generates stability so that the combination may be supported to remain, for example, in the vertical position. The alignment between the parts is achieved by means of the chamfered surfaces of each part that cooperate to centralize and firmly fasten the recipient 5 in the casing 6, maintaining the stability of the recipient 5 inside the casing 6, providing the experience of a solid part, even if the recipient 5 has lesser volume in relation to the casing 6.

[0057] The recipient 5 comprises at least a portion consisting of a translucent or transparent material capable of enabling the product contained in the recipient to be visualized. Preferably, but not compulsorily, the closed wall 52 and the portion which corresponds to the third diameter D3, forming a collar of the recipient 5 are made of translucent or transparent material. Alternatively, the entire recipient 5 is made of translucent or transparent material.

[0058] The slimmer portion which corresponds to the first diameter D1 of the recipient 5 has lesser volume in relation to the casing 6, such that the slimmer portion is designed to be inserted into the casing 6.

[0059] The packaging 1 functions by means of the threaded lid portion which, when opened, brings with it the applicator 3 embedded in the product, which has its excess removed by the bung 4, positioned at the opening 53 of the recipient 5.

[0060] The recipient 5 is manufactured in different sizes with varied storage capacities, such that the packaging 1 contains different amounts of product without modifying its outer characteristics. Therefore, the sizes of the lid 2, the applicator 3, the bung 4 and the casing 6 are maintained, the only modification being the size of the recipient 5. The recipient 5 is modified according to each project and is capable of storing any amount of cosmetic up to 12 grams. The amount of product contained in the packaging 1 is clearly identified on the outer surface of the casing 6, enabling consumers to distinguish immediately the product amount acquired.

[0061] The packaging 1 of the present invention enables the storage of different product amounts without altering the outer characteristics of the packaging 1, maintaining the visual identity of the packaging 1 and reducing the manufacturing costs thereof.

[0062] Having described a preferred embodiment example, it should be understood that the scope of the present invention encompasses other possible variations, being limited solely by the content of the accompanying claims, potential equivalents included therein.
