Description
FIELD OF THE DISCLOSURE
[0001] The disclosure relates to a butt plate for a gun stock. In
addition, the disclosure also relates to a gun stock comprising
such a butt plate.
BACKGROUND
[0002] DE 81 24 896 U1 discloses a gun stock plate comprising a
holding part stationarily disposed on the back surface of a gun
stock and a damping part detachably mounted on the holding part.
The holding part, which consists of a metal or plastic material and
which is mounted on the back surface of the gun stock, comprises a
bordering frame which is matched to the shape of the gun stock and
which forms a hollow space for receiving the damping part
consisting of an elastic material. The damping part is fitted into
the hollow space of the holding part and is mounted by means of
screws on the holding part. Mounting and dismounting of the butt
plate is therefore possible only with a suitable tool, along with
the associated expenditure of labor.
SUMMARY
[0003] One aspect of the disclosure relates to a butt plate and a
gun stock comprising such a butt plate, which allows the butt plate
to be mounted and dismounted without having to use a tool.
[0004] Suitable embodiments and advantageous refinements are also
disclosed.
[0005] Disposed on a front surface of the holding part for the butt
plate according to the disclosure, which front surface is facing
the gun stock, are two forwardly projecting and spaced-apart,
arch-like retention members for snap-lock retention on two
oppositely lying side walls of the gun stock. By means of the
snap-lock connection, the butt plates can be dismounted and mounted
relatively easily without a tool. This allows a butt plate to be
quickly and easily exchanged and the gun stock to be adapted to
meet the current requirements of the shooters. In addition, the gun
stock can be more simply configured since no special retention or
receiving members for screws or other mounting elements are
required.
[0006] According to an advantageous embodiment of the disclosure,
the arch-like retention members, which are designed to sit close to
the inside surface or the outside surface of the side walls of the
gun stock, can be designed so as to be laterally resilient. This
allows the butt plate to be mounted on the gun stock by means of a
snap-lock connection. Thus, for the mounting or dismounting
operation, the arch-like retention members can be pushed together
or pulled apart and automatically locked into a predefined mounting
position.
[0007] The arch-like retention members are preferably integrally
formed in one piece with the holding part which consists, e.g., of
a heavy-duty plastic material.
[0008] According to another useful embodiment, lateral lug elements
for locking engagement in through-openings in the side walls are
disposed on the arch-like retention members. If the arch-like
retention members sit close to the inside surface of the side
walls, the lug elements can be disposed on the outside surface of
the arch-like retention members, and if the arch-like retention
members sit close to the outside surface of the side walls, the lug
elements are conveniently disposed on the inside surface of the
arch-like retention members.
[0009] The lug elements, which are disposed on the arch-like
retention members, preferably have an outside contour that is
matched to the inside contour of the through-openings in the gun
stock. Thus, the creation of an interlocking connection between the
butt plate and the gun stock is easily possible.
[0010] As an alternative, the butt plate can also be mounted on the
gun stock by means of separate retaining elements, which can be
inserted into associated openings on the arch-like retention
members and there be detachably fixable by means of a snap-fit or
snap-lock connection.
[0011] The shape of the through-openings in the gun stock and the
shape of the associated lug elements on the arch-like retention
members or the shape of the separate retaining elements can be
configured to correspond to the shape of a company logo.
[0012] In addition, the disclosure also relates to a gun stock
comprising an above-described butt plate.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0013] Additional characteristic features and advantages of the
disclosure follow from the description of a preferred example below
with reference to the drawings. In the drawings:
[0014] FIG. 1 shows a first embodiment of a portion of a gun stock
comprising a butt plate;
[0015] FIG. 2 shows a second embodiment of a portion of a gun stock
comprising a butt plate, and
[0016] FIG. 3 shows a third embodiment of a portion of a gun stock
comprising a butt plate.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0017] FIG. 1 shows a first embodiment of a portion of a gun stock
1 comprising a butt plate 2 that is detachably mounted on the back
surface of the gun stock. At least in its rearward portion, the gun
stock 1 is designed as a hollow stock with an opening 3 on the back
surface and with oppositely lying side walls 4. In the two
oppositely lying side walls 4 of the gun stock 1, two aligned
through-openings 5 for retaining the butt plate are disposed in the
rearward area of the gun stock.
[0018] The butt plate 2 comprises a holding part 6, e.g.,
consisting of a hard plastic material, for mounting on the gun
stock 1 and a damping part 7 disposed on the holding part 6 and
consisting of a softer material to facilitate recoil damping. The
damping part 7 can consist, e.g., of a solid expanded plastic
material, an elastomer or another suitable plastic material and can
be vulcanized onto, glued to, snapped onto, sprayed onto the
holding part 6 or attached by another suitable method to the
holding part 6. On a front surface 8, facing the gun stock 1, of
the holding part 6, which is fitted with reinforcing ribs 9, two
spaced-apart, arch-like retention members 10 projecting in the
direction of the gun stock 1 are disposed, which arch-like
retention members are designed to sit close to the two oppositely
lying side walls 4 of the gun stock 1.
[0019] In the embodiment example shown in FIG. 1, the arch-like
retention members 10 are designed to sit close to the inside
surface of the side walls 4. Disposed on the outside surface of
each of the two arch-like retention members 10 is a laterally
projecting lug element 11 for locking engagement in the
through-openings 5 on the gun stock 1. The two arch-like retention
members 10 are spaced apart from one another, so that when inserted
into the opening 3 on the back surface of the gun stock 1, they sit
close to the inside surface of the two side walls 4. The laterally
projecting lug elements 11 are disposed in such a way that when in
a predefined mounting position of the butt plate 2 on the gun stock
1, they engage in the through-openings 5 on the gun stock 1. The
two arch-like retention members 10 are formed in one piece with the
holding part 6 and are designed so as to be laterally resilient, so
that in order to mount the butt plate 2, they can be pushed
together and subsequently automatically return into the starting
position. As soon as the butt plate 2 reaches the mounting
position, the inwardly bent lug elements 11 engage in the
through-openings 5, thereby retaining the butt plate 2.
[0020] The lug elements 11 on the arch-like retention members 10
are designed so that their shape is matched to the inside contour
of the through-openings 5. This creates an interlocking retention
of the butt plate 2 on the gun stock 1. The height of the lug
elements 11 is dimensioned such that, when engaged, the surface of
the lug element is flush with the outside surface of the side walls
4 or is slightly set back toward the inside.
[0021] FIG. 2 shows a second embodiment example. In this
embodiment, the arch-like retention members 10 are again designed
to sit close to the inside surface of the side walls 4. In
contrast, however, the arch-like retention members 10 are not
fitted with any lug elements 11 for interlocking engagement in the
through-openings 5 on the side walls 4 of the gun stock 1. Instead,
this embodiment provides for separate retaining elements 12, which,
after the butt plate 2 has been fitted into the gun stock 1, can be
inserted into the through-openings 5 and can be lockably fixable in
associated openings 13 on the arch-like retention members 10 by
means of a snap-fit connection. For this purpose, laterally
resilient arch-like snap-fit elements 14 for engaging in the
openings 13 on the arch-like retention members 10 can be disposed
on the inside surface of the retaining elements 12, which are
matched to the shape of the through-openings 5. In this embodiment,
mounting the butt plate 2 on the gun stock 1 can again be
implemented by means of a snap-fit connection, which can be easily
disengaged and re-engaged as needed.
[0022] In contrast to the embodiments of FIGS. 1 and 2, the two
arch-like retention members 10 in the embodiment shown in FIG. 3
are not designed for sitting close to the inside surface, but to
the outside surface of the side walls 4. For this purpose, recesses
15, matched to the shape of the arch-like retention members 10, for
receiving the arch-like retention members 10 are disposed on the
outside surface of the two side walls 4 of the gun stock 1. On the
inside surfaces of the arch-like retention members 10, inwardly
projecting lug elements 11 for locking engagement in the
through-openings 5 on the gun stock 1 are provided. The two
laterally resilient arch-like retention members 10 are spaced apart
at such a distance from one another that when mounting the butt
plate 2, the arch-like retention members 10 with the inwardly
projecting lug elements 11 are initially bent outwardly and that
the lug elements 11, on reaching the predefined mounting position,
automatically engage in the through-openings 5. The butt plate 2
can be easily dismounted by pulling the arch-like retention members
10 apart.
