Description

CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATE APPLICATIONS

[0001] The present application is a non-provisional application of U.S. Provisional Application No. 62/485,310, filed on Apr. 13, 2017.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

(1) Field of Invention

[0002] The present invention relates to artificial eyelashes and, more particularly, to artificial eyelashes where the root is flattened on at least one side.

(2) Description of Related Art

[0003] Eyelash extensions have been a popular cosmetic enhancement for several years. Eyelash extensions are applied to a user's natural eyelashes to save the user time and enhance their natural beauty.

[0004] Currently, there are many types of artificial eyelashes on the market, some better than others. Historically, artificial eyelashes were made of several artificial eyelashes that were adhered to a sticky strip. The sticky strip would then be applied to the user's eyelid to provide many artificial eyelashes in one easy procedure. A problem with the traditional artificial eyelashes is that they are bulky and do not look natural.

[0005] With advances in technology, single artificial eyelashes have been conceived. In other words, with single lashes, a single eyelash extension can be glued to a single natural eyelash. By gluing the eyelash extensions directly to the natural eyelashes, the natural look and fullness of the user is enhanced.

[0006] A problem with the original single eyelash extensions is that they are tapered on one side and extend out to a thick root on the other side. The thick root provides a broad surface that enables an eyelash technician to glue the thick root to the user's natural eyelashes. However, because the root is thick, when the eyelash extensions are applied to natural lashes, an observer can easily see the connection (it is not natural due to the bulky root). Further, the thick root is heavy (which harms the natural eyelashes) and does not stick perfectly.

[0007] Therefore, there is a continuing need for an eyelash extension that is formed in such a shape to allow for proper adhesion to natural eyelashes while still providing a realistic appearance.

SUMMARY OF INVENTION

[0008] The present invention relates to artificial eyelashes and, more particularly, to artificial eyelashes where the root is flattened on at least one side.

[0009] In another aspect, the artificial eyelash is a synthetic filament.

[0010] In yet another aspect, the root is flattened on two, three, four sides.

[0011] Finally, in another aspect, the present invention also comprises methods for forming and using the artificial eyelash described herein.

Instead, they are used to reflect relative locations and/or directions between various portions of an object.

[0025] (1) Description

[0026] The present invention relates to artificial eyelashes and, more particularly, to artificial eyelashes (used for eyelash extensions) where the root is flattened on at least one side. Artificial eyelashes are formed of any desired material and in any desired form, non-limiting examples of which includes being formed as a synthetic filament, such as nylon, or of any other suitable material, including mink fibers or other material. Notably and as referenced above and shown in FIGS. 1 through 7, the artificial eyelashes 100 according to the principles of the present invention have a root 102 opposite a tip 103, with at least one side 104 of the root 102 being flattened. The root 102 can be flattened using any suitable mechanism or technique. As a non-limiting example, the artificial eyelashes 100 are molded to have at least one flattened side 104. Other non-limiting examples of a process for forming the flattened root 102 include pressing the root 102, or pressing the root 102 with a hot plate to melt one or more sides, melting the root 102, cutting the root 102, etc. Thus, there are a number of techniques that can be employed to form artificial eyelashes 100 where the root 102 is flattened on at least one side 104.

[0027] It should be noted that the artificial eyelashes can be formed to have any number of flattened sides, several non-limiting examples of which are depicted in FIGS. 2, 3, and 4. Further, the flattened sides 104 can be directly next to each other, or opposite each other as shown in FIG. 2, or at any other desired location. Additionally, the flattened root 102 can be cut or otherwise formed to have a blunt end, as shown in FIGS. 1 through 4. Alternatively, the flattened root 102 can be tapered to a point 500, as shown in FIG. 5. Regardless of the configuration (blunt end and/or tapered, or any other configuration), it should be noted that any number of sides of the root 102 can be flattened into a flattened side 104.

[0028] Importantly, the flattened root 102 provides an extended surface area or base upon which a natural lash can be attached to provide increased adhesion between the two when glue (or other adhesive material) is applied. As noted above and as shown in FIGS. 6 and 7, the flattened root 104 provides a broad surface to allow an eyelash technician to apply adhesive to the eyelash extension 100 and, thereafter, adhere the eyelash extension 100 to the user's natural eyelashes 600, thereby and increasing the strength of the bond between the artificial eyelash extension 100 and the users' natural eyelashes 600.

[0029] The artificial eyelashes 100 can be formed of any suitable thickness to any suitable tapering thickness, a non-limiting example of which includes being between 0.01 mm and 0.40 mm thick. Further, the artificial eyelashes 100 can be formed of to any suitable length, a non-limiting example of which includes being between 1 mm and 25 mm long.

[0030] The artificial eyelashes 100 can be formed in any desired color, shape, size, tapered or not tapered, tapered with a blunt cut end, or any combination thereof, and/or formed to be branched or attached with other eyelashes. For example, the artificial eyelashes 100 can be formed as a single lash (as illustrated), or merged together with other single lashes, or merged with any kind of single lashes (tapered on both sides, one side, non-tapered on both sides, etc.) Further, the artificial eyelashes 100 can be formed to have any desired curvature.

[0031] Thus and as can be appreciated by those skilled in the art, this disclosure is directed to any artificial eyelash 100 having any size, shape, characteristic, color, curvature, branches, etc., so long the root 102 is flattened on at least one side 104.

[0032] Finally, while this invention has been described in terms of several embodiments, one of ordinary skill in the art will readily recognize that the invention may have other applications in other environments. It should be noted that many embodiments and implementations are possible. Further, the following claims are in no way intended to limit the scope of the present invention to the specific embodiments described above. In addition, any recitation of "means for" is intended to evoke a means-plus-function reading of an element and a claim, whereas, any elements that do not specifically use the recitation "means for", are not intended to be read as means-plus-function elements, even if the claim otherwise includes the word "means". Further, while particular method steps have been recited in a particular order, the method steps may occur in any desired order and fall within the scope of the present invention.
