Description
CROSS-REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATIONS
[0001] This application claims the benefit of U.S. Provisional
Application No. 61/917,681 filed Dec. 18, 2013.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] Problem Solved: 1. Rain gutter is made with a front and back
lip at identical heights allowing water to rise in the rain gutter
equally.
[0003] 2. Water rising in the Rain gutter equally allows water to
overflow in both directions.
[0004] 3. Rain gutter made with a wing relies on the structures
edge to determine fall or gutter pitch.
[0005] 4. The roofing edge appearance is determined by the plywood
edge as the roof ages the edge sags and becomes wavy.
[0006] 5. Roof edges are disturbed when a gutter or screen is
installed. lifting and breaking the current roofing seal is
detrimental to the life and integrity of the roof.
[0007] 6. Standard metal flashing is made at 90 degrees in
different widths and installed on the roof edge. The 90 degree
flattens the roofing shingle as the shingles or any roofing
membrane gets closer to the perimeter.
[0008] 7. Felt is deteriorated as water is diverted backwards by
the pile of debris left at an edge by flat gutter guard.
[0009] 8. Flat gutter guard screen systems with inadequate back
flashings are installed at a horizontal plane/Flat. The leafs
collected at the roof edge are hit by water coming down the roof
pitch and redirected towards the shingle edge eventually entering
the structure.
[0010] 9. Standard roofing shingles are applied with a shingle drip
edge that falls below the gutter front lip as it enters the gutter
system.
[0011] 10. In an open beam structure lowing a gutter opens a gap
between the roof lower edge and the back upper gutter wall.
[0012] 11. A lowered gutter oil cans on the back surface as it is
applied closest to the open rafters.
[0013] 12. Water wicks up a vertical plain when two metals are
tightly pressed up against each other.
[0014] 13. Standard gutter screen is made approx. 5 to 6 inches
wide just enough to divert water back towards the roofing
membrane.
Advantages
[0015] The claimed invention differs from what currently exists.
The device provides the customer a choice to install repair or
replace gutter or screen without disturbing the roofing system and
prevents damage should the customer decide to install nothing at
all.
[0016] This invention is an improvement on what currently exists.
The device provides the customer a choice to install repair or
replace gutter or screen without disturbing the roofing system and
prevents damage should the customer decide to install nothing at
all.
[0017] Standard metal edges do not provide the versatility or
flexibility provided by this device once applied anything can be
added or subtracted without disturbing the integrity of the roofing
surface.
[0018] The horizontal and vertical slots and live hinge provide and
give flexibility to any installation the device can be adjusted
left to right up or down in multiple configurations or any
combination of both. The "live hinge" is accomplished not by
recessing a channel but by compressing and thinning metal to create
a weaker and flexible hinge area.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0023] As stated above, 1. Rain gutter is made with a front and
back lip at identical heights allowing water to rise in the rain
gutter equally.
[0024] 2. Water rising in the Rain gutter equally allows water to
overflow in both directions.
[0025] 3. Rain gutter made with a wing relies on the structures
edge to determine fall or gutter pitch.
[0026] 4. The roofing edge appearance is determined by the plywood
edge as the roof ages the edge sags and becomes wavy.
[0027] 5. Roof edges are disturbed when a gutter or screen is
installed. lifting and breaking the current roofing seal is
detrimental to the life and integrity of the roof.
[0028] 6. Standard metal flashing is made at 90 degrees in
different widths and installed on the roof edge. The 90 degree
flattens the roofing shingle as the shingles or any roofing
membrane gets closer to the perimeter.
[0029] 7. Felt is deteriorated as water is diverted backwards by
the pile of debris left at an edge by flat gutter guard.
[0030] 8. Flat gutter guard screen systems with inadequate back
flashings are installed at a horizontal plane/Flat. The leafs
collected at the roof edge are hit by water coming down the roof
pitch and redirected towards the shingle edge eventually entering
the structure.
[0031] 9. Standard roofing shingles are applied with a shingle drip
edge that falls below the gutter front lip as it enters the gutter
system.
[0032] 10. In an open beam structure lowing a gutter opens a gap
between the roof lower edge and the back upper gutter wall.
[0033] 11. A lowered gutter oil cans on the back surface as it is
applied closest to the open rafters.
[0034] 12. Water wicks up a vertical plain when two metals are
tightly pressed up against each other.
[0035] 13. Standard gutter screen is made approx. 5 to 6 inches
wide just enough to divert water back towards the roofing membrane.
The invention claimed here solves this problem.
[0036] The claimed invention differs from what currently exists.
The device provides the customer a choice to install repair or
replace gutter or screen without disturbing the roofing system and
prevents damage should the customer decide to install nothing at
all.
[0037] This invention is an improvement on what currently exists.
The device provides the customer a choice to install repair or
replace gutter or screen without disturbing the roofing system and
prevents damage should the customer decide to install nothing at
all.
[0038] standard metal provide one solution this device provide
multiple solutions.
[0039] the horizontal and vertical slots provide and give
flexibility to any installation the device can be adjusted left to
right up or down in multiple configurations or any combination of
both.
[0040] The Version of The Invention Discussed Here Includes:
[0041] 1. Cut flatten and prepare a solid sheet of aluminum, steel
or copper approx. 10 inches wide by 10 feet long
[0042] 2. punch vertical slots along one edge approx. 1/2 inch in
and spaced every 12 inches each slot is approx. 1 inch long
[0043] 3. Press the opposite edge together to provide a live hinge
approx. 2.5 inches from the outside edge spanning the entire length
of the 10 feet compress enough to provide a flex point
[0044] 4. start a series of bends until each section is at its
correct length and press together each section to approx. 1/4
separation
[0045] 5. The bends will consist of one long leg back panel approx.
1 inch longer than the bends directly in front
[0046] 6. the bends directly in front of this leg will be an s bend
compressed to 1/4 inch separation
[0047] 7. The third bend will be bent over the previous and double
back to provide an inside channel approx. 1 inch deep 1/4 inch
apart
[0048] 8. The final bend will be positioned and bent back to an
approx. length of 3 inches
Relationship Between The Components:
[0049] There is one continues component a sheet of any form of
flexible metal or material able to consistently keep its new shape
a series of bends to produce an enclosed design. each bend is
intended to produce a particular function but does not detach from
the design from the lowest end to the opposite furthest end the
design is continuous.
How The Invention Works:
[0050] The object of any perimeter metal is to produce a water
tight seal against the elements and eliminate the need to
disassemble any product used to contain the edge assembly Nails,
screws, silicone's, rivets, links or any tie in should remain
intact while using the device any dis-assembly reduces the
integrity of the roofing system or water proof membrane. This
device allows an installer to attach a rain gutter a gutter guard
and adjust left to right up or down or any combination of the two
without breaking any part of the water tight seal. A roofing
contractor who installs a roofing waterproof membrane does so in a
way he or she is able to properly warrantee it's service life and
does not allow any other contractor to disassemble or change the
assembly in any way to maintain this warrantee this edge system can
be installed and added to without interfering with any warren-tee
of any previous contractor for the life the assembly in installed
on the home or structure.
How To Make The Invention:
[0051] Starting with a flat sheet of metal 10 inches wide by 10 ft.
long. Place in a hole stamping system with the longest edge laid
across the machine attach a hole cutter to the stamping machine 1
inch long and 1/4 wide along the lower longest edge. Punch out a
series of holes 12 inch apart. The holes will be punched along the
longest edge, set in 3/8'' from the outer 10 SC'' edge.
[0052] On the opposite side where the stamped holes are measure in
approx. 2.75 inches draw a line along the entire 10 ft. length. two
rollers with a center diameter of 3/8'' will be set on both upper
and lower surface of the metal sheet with the line centered. The
flat metal sheet will be placed between the two described rollers
to literally pinch the metal sheet to 1/2 its starting thickness to
provide a flex point or a live hinge. A 10 inch by 10 foot flat
sheet with holes punched on one side and a live hinge on the
opposite will remain. Looking at the sheet 10 inch side view with
the holes facing downward measure up 2.5 inches from the hole
punched side and bend left at a negative 45 degree angle 1 st bend.
Continuing to the second bend measure 1 inch over bend opposite of
bend 1 also 45 degrees making a 90 degree S bend. In side view the
back panel 2.5 inches long with slots vertically punched 12 inches
apart. to the left is two opposite bends completing a (S)
configuration with longer leg approx. 5 inches rising upward.
Compress this (S) bend together to provide only 1/4 inch between
vertical plains. The highest 5 inch remaining leg of this unit will
bend over to the right with two additional bends same as before
only horizontal instead of vertical both 1 inch going in opposite
directions to form another (S) bend horizontally laid over to the
right of the first vertical (S) bend This Horizontal (S) bend will
also be compressed to provide approx. 1/4 inch separation as
described before. Also having a remaining 2.5 inch leg left as with
the lower leg at the starting point
[0053] All bends and elements are required to make this device
work. An edge connection would make this device work better.
[0054] Legs can me made longer s bends can be made taller different
materials can be used in the production to consist of plastics or
other metals and some additional angles can be used.
How To Use The Invention:
[0055] Prior to any roofing or water proofing installation our
device is secured on the perimeter of the structure or home. The
edge device should be secured to provide a smooth vertical and
horizontal transitional cap or waterproof cover to be adjusted and
leveled as needed. The device is secured with flat head wood or
sheet metal screws all ends overlapped with our new connection
system and sealed with a long lasting silicone. When adjusted the
device will span across the waves, breaks or gaps in the plywood
and wood members at the structures edge. All waterproofing
materials can be applied and sealed to the device this device will
provide a vertical and horizontal slot to later attach a gutter or
gutter guard without disturbing the integrity or warrantee of an
existing water proof membrane. In addition provide a way of
leveling a roof shingle tile or wood edge. It is also used to
transition between a flat deck roof and a vertical wall the
vertical adjustment will provide fall in the drain systems and a
front edge lower than the rear prevent moisture damage.
[0056] Additionally: Any form of capping or protection projects
associated with waterproofing a structure in the foundation walls
or a particular building or in the roofing industry
[0057] basement transition stucco transition landscaping retainer
and function when waterproofing is a requirement.
