the same were set forth in its entirety.
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0002] The present invention pertains to the field of health and
fitness, and more specifically to the field of exercise
equipment.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0003] The prior art has put forth several designs for exercise
equipment. Among these are:
[0004] U.S. Pat. No. 5,551,936 to Patrick J. Murphy and Richard H.
Parisi describes a pad frame that is formed of angle irons to which
one section of an articulating dual section pad is secured. A head
end frame comprising a pair of pipe uprights secured by an angle
iron cross base member and a pipe intermediate member is secured to
the pad frame by releasable locking pins in the upright position
and foldable to a storage condition by removing the pins. A foot
end frame comprises a U shaped member and an angle iron cross base
member rotatably secured to the pad frame and secured upright by
releasable locking pins. The collapsed head end and foot end frames
are rotated parallel to the pad frame and secured to the pad frame
by fasteners.
[0005] A removable brace is releasably secured to and between the
head and foot cross base members in the unfolded bench use
condition.
[0006] U.S. Pat. No. 4,645,196 to Larry L. Christie describes a
weight lifter's bench which is foldable into a compact form
suitable for storage. The folding feature is provided by a frame
made of two facing U shaped members which are engaged by bolts
which slide within the frame. Two support panels positioned upon
the frame are hinged together to facilitate folding and also to
permit one panel to be inclined for special exercises. The frame is
supported by four legs which pivot about the frame for storage and
can be locked into operative position by brackets pivoted to the
legs and adapted to be secured to the underside of the frame.
Support posts are provided for a barbell and leg exercising means
are provided.
[0007] U.S. Pat. No. 4,609,192 to James E. Bratcher describes a
collapsible, portable exercise table that includes a first group of
legs for supporting the table in a planar and horizontal
orientation for massage, and a second group of table legs for
supporting the table in an inclined position as might be used in
exercise. The table legs are collapsible or removable, and a
plurality of threaded receptacles are provided along the bottom of
the table surface to selectively assemble the table for each usage.
The table is constructed of a pair of table halves having a hinge
joining them such that the table legs are folded in or clipped
against the table halves and the tables halves folded against one
another and fastened together for storage or transportation.
[0008] None of these prior art references describe the present
invention.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0009] It is an object of the present invention to provide a single
exercise apparatus configured to assist in a multitude of workout
routines.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0010] FIG. 1 is an illustrative prototypical top down diagonal
view showing wheels for rolling when legs are collapsed, bar hands
for holding while doing pull ups or leg raises, and collapsible
legs for compactly storing the present invention.
[0011] FIG. 2 is a prototypical diagonal side view showing the
present invention in its storable position with collapsible legs
and bar handles folded underneath the top bench surface.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0012] Being physically active is one of the most effective tools
in increasing one's health of mind, body and spirit. Reducing risk
of heart disease and stroke, physical activity also helps to lower
or control other risk factors such as high blood pressure, high
blood cholesterol, excess body weight and diabetes. A regular
exercise regimen helps an individual look and feel better, become
stronger and more flexible, possess more energy, and reduce stress
and tension. Aware of physical and mental benefits afforded by
regular exercise, many people wishing to engage in an exercise
endeavor encounter daunting obstacles. With demands of work, school
and family in today's fast paced world, little time remains in a
day to set aside twenty to thirty minutes for walking on a
treadmill, doing reps with free weights, or strolling around a
neighborhood after dinner. Trips to the local gym every other day
are impractical for most busy people and also costly for those
individuals on tight budgets.
[0013] People with limited physical capabilities who want to keep
up their strength, muscle tone and energy, often are frustrated by
a lack of exercise equipment or activities that allow them to work
on their bodies in a pain free and comfortable manner. Unable to
lift even light weights or to walk for long distances, these
individuals usually opt for avoiding workouts altogether.
[0014] The present invention, hereinafter referred to as the Work
Me Out Bench or the Bench, is an exercise apparatus configured to
assist in a multitude of workout routines. The present invention
provides consumers with a simple and effective means of
successfully achieving an optimal abdominal workout and a full body
exercise regimen with one easy to use piece of equipment in the
comfort of one's home. The Work Me Out Bench 10 is a cushioned,
leather or vinyl upholstered bench 12 that is rectangular in shape
with four collapsible legs 14 securely attached its underside
surface 16. The top side comprises a padded, upholstered surface
18. With a standing height of approximately eighteen to twenty
inches, the Work Me Out Bench comprises a sturdy surface 18 which
accommodates up to approximately four hundred pounds. The bench
surface 18 measures approximately forty four to forty six inches in
length, ten inches in width and two to three inches in pad
thickness. Located along the edge of the Bench close to proximal
and distal ends of the Bench are four evenly spaced apart handles
22 which facilitate hand held support for a host of workout
routines performed on the device. Collapsible legs 14 include cast
wheels 24 to allow a user to easily roll the Work Me Out Bench into
storage under a bed or within a closet when the legs are folded
under the bench. The wheels 24 are placed on the legs 24 above the
terminal end of the legs to allow the bench to be easily moved when
the legs are collapsed. The wheels are not intended to permit
movement of the bench when in use. The present invention is
manufactured in a variety of colors and durable materials.
[0015] Use and application of the Work Me Out Bench is very simple
and straightforward. Unfolding the legs, a user places the Work Me
Out Bench in an upright position. Lying on the Bench's top surface,
the user holds on to a handle for support and completes reps of leg
raises and leg ups, bicycles or scissor splits. Lying underneath
the raised Bench and, grabbing underside handles, the user performs
a series of pull up exercises. Kneeling in front of the Work Me Out
Bench, the user holds the handles, maintaining balance while
performing core exercises such as pushups. Jumping and touching one
foot at a time to the Bench's surface, the user executes cardio
exercises. Employing the Bench's surface as a touchstone for the
buttocks, the user performs effortless squats.
[0016] The Work Me Out Bench provides consumers with a simple, non
cumbersome and inexpensive means of engaging in physical activity
right in the comforts of home. A sturdy and comfortable bench, the
present invention permits any user to enjoy the benefits of a full
body exercise regimen without undue strain on their knees, legs,
back and arms. Functioning to facilitate core workouts, the Work Me
Out Bench is comprised of resistance components that accentuate
upper and lower body workouts while effectively targeting all body
muscles. Users comfortably work themselves to obtaining a more
ripped physique regardless of their current fitness level. The
Bench eliminates a need for other workout regimens and trips to the
gym that expend valuable time and money. The Work Me Out Bench is
effective and easily usable by every individual from elderly,
disabled and obese to advanced fitness aficionados.
Multifunctional, the present invention ensures proper working of
muscle mass while also providing cardio fitness. Comprised of
minimal components and featuring a wheeled base, the Bench is
easily storable or it may function as a seating area in a room.
Comprised of durable, high quality materials, the Work Me Out Bench
will withstand years of continued use.
[0017] Although this invention has been described with respect to
specific embodiments, it is not intended to be limited thereto and
various modifications which will become apparent to the person of
ordinary skill in the art are intended to fall within the spirit
and scope of the invention as described herein taken in conjunction
with the accompanying drawings and the appended claims.
