Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001] The present invention relates to a gun scope and, more particularly, to a light adjusting gun scope.

[0002] A scope is a sighting device that is based on an optical refracting telescope. It is equipped with some form of graphic image pattern mounted in an optically appropriate position within the optical system to give an accurate aiming point. Telescopic sights are used with all types of accurate aiming systems most commonly found on firearms, particularly rifles.

[0003] Current rifle scopes contain regular clear lenses that can cause glare, reflection of light, and reduced visual acuity when sighting a target. This reduces the eye's capability to process images sharply and clearly. Glare, ultraviolet exposure, and eye strain are all issues with the current clear objective lenses on scopes.

[0004] As can be seen from the background summation provided, there is a need for a light adjusting lens within a gun scope.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0005] In one aspect of the present invention, a scope comprises a scope body, constructed of a first end and a second end. The first end is constructed of an ocular lens, and the second end constructed of an objective lens, wherein the objective lens is at least one of polarized, photochromic, and antireflective.

[0006] In another aspect of the present invention, as an alternative to replacing the gun scope's objective lens, a lens cap comprises a body portion having a first end and a second end. The second end forms an opening to a cavity formed within the body portion; a lens mounting ring formed at the first end of the body portion; and a lens that is at least one of polarized, photochromic, and antireflective, wherein the lens is within the lens mounting ring.

[0007] These and other features, aspects and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following drawings, description and claims.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0008] FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the present invention in use;

[0009] FIG. 2 is an exploded perspective view of the present invention;

[0010] FIG. 3 is a side elevation view with parts broken away;

[0011] FIG. 4 is a detail cross-sectional view indicated by line 4-4 of FIG. 3; and

[0012] FIG. 5 is a side elevation view of an alternate embodiment with parts broken away.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0013] The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense, but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention, since the breadth of the invention is best defined by the appended claims.

[0014] The present invention includes a light adjusting lens for rifle scopes. The present invention includes a polarized, photochromic and anti-reflective filter lens that can adjust to any light situation. Utilizing the photochromic polarized lens with anti-reflective coating, up to 100% of the ultraviolet light may be blocked and glare may be eliminated. This improves the eye's capability to process images with higher acuity and reduced eye strain for better accuracy in sighting a target.

[0015] Broadly, an embodiment of the present invention provides a polarized, photochromic, antireflective lens for a gun scope. This specialized lens may be placed within a gun scope. For example, the gun scope may include an objective lens with a polarized, photochromic lens, with an antireflective coating. The present invention may further include a gun scope cap that includes a polarized, photochromic lens with an antireflective coating. The gun scope cap fits over a gun scope, covering the objective lens.

[0016] Referring to FIGS. 1 through 5, the present invention includes an antireflective gun scope 16. The gun scope 16 may include a scope body 26 with a first end 28 and a second end 18. The first end includes an eyepiece and an ocular lens. The second end 18 includes the objective bell with an objective lens 24. The objective lens 24 may be polarized, photochromic, and/or include an antireflective coating 22. In certain embodiments, the lens 24 may be polarized, and a photochromic lens with an antireflective coating 22 and may darken on exposure to specific types of light, such as ultraviolet radiation.

[0017] The present invention may further include a lens cap 10. The lens cap 10 may include a body portion 12 having a first end and a second end. The second end forms an opening to a cavity formed within the body portion 12. A lens mounting ring 13 may be formed at the first end of the body portion 12. A lens 14 within the lens mounting ring 13 may include a polarized, photochromic, antireflective material 22. The lens cap 10 is formed to fit over the second end of the gun scope 16, covering a clear objective lens 20.

[0018] Reducing the glare and blocking the ultraviolet light improves the versatility of the scope for use in all topography and weather conditions. The present invention improves the contrast of viewed objects and thereby maximizing the visual acuity of the intended target. As mentioned above, the present invention may be a lens mounted within an existing scope, or alternatively the present invention may include a cap formed to fit over the lens of the scope.

[0019] In alternate embodiments, the polarized, photochromic, antireflective lens of the present invention may be used in drones that are monitored remotely but their use may be improved by providing a clear visual image with high acuity and resolution. The polarized, photochromatic lens with antireflective coating may also be used with binoculars, spotting scopes, and any weaponry that employs optical technology aiming to sharpen images for accuracy.

[0020] It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing relates to exemplary embodiments of the invention and that modifications may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as set forth in the following claims.
