Abstract

An improved anti-slip sports glove is disclosed. The improvement lies in the direct application of a releasable contact adhesive to the interior palm region of the sports glove that contacts the wearer's hand.

Claims



1. An anti-slip sports glove comprising an interior palm region, said palm region having layer directly thereon, a releasable adhesive, said adhesive being present in an area at least within the palm region directly facing for contact with a wearer's hand sufficient to prevent slippage of the wearer's hand within said glove during usage.

2. The sports glove of claim 1, further comprising the adhesive applied uniformly and contiguously within the palm region.

3. The sports glove of claim 1, further comprising the adhesive applied in a pattern.

4. The sports glove of claim 3, wherein the pattern is discontinuous.

5. The sports glove of claim 3, wherein the pattern is continuous.

6. The sports glove of claim 3, further comprising adhesive applied in a pattern selected from the group consisting of: stripes, chevrons or dots.

7. The sports glove of claim 1, wherein perforations or holes are positioned in the glove to allow circulation of air to an interior portion of the glove such that cooling and reduced sweating of the wearer's hand.

8. The sports glove of claim 7, wherein said holes are positioned in the palm region of the glove.

9. An anti-slip golf glove comprising fingers and an interior palm region, said palm region having layer directly thereon, a releasable adhesive, said adhesive being present at least in an area within the palm region directly facing for contact with a wearer's hand sufficient to prevent slippage of the wearer's hand within said glove during usage.

10. The golf glove of claim 9, further comprising the adhesive applied uniformly and contiguously within the palm region.

11. The golf glove of claim 9, further comprising the adhesive applied in a pattern.

12. The golf glove of claim 11, wherein the pattern is discontinuous.

13. The golf glove of claim 11, wherein the pattern is continuous.

14. The golf glove of claim 9, further comprising adhesive applied in a pattern selected from the group consisting of: stripes, or dots.

15. The golf glove of claim 9, wherein perforations or holes are positioned in the glove to allow circulation of air to an interior portion of the glove such that cooling and reduced sweating of the wearer's hand.

16. The golf glove of claim 15, wherein said holes are positioned in the palm region of the glove.

[0005] The present invention relates to a non-slip sports glove.

[0007] Sports gloves are used and have become a major and indeed, an essential accessory in a variety of sports involving gripping a sports implement such as tennis racket, baseball bat and glove and especially in golf. Sports gloves are used to improve the hand grip on sports implement to increase accuracy and distance. A major problem of sports gloves is slippage of the between the glove and the handle of the sports implement, which leads to inaccurate placement, strike or contact with the ball adversely affecting accuracy and distance. Most inventive energy to improve sports gloves has been devoted to improving the grip and reducing slippage between the glove and the handle of the sports implement, in the case of golf, the glove and golf club handle. Such efforts are exemplified in patents: US 2005/0228331 (Tseng et al); U.S. Pat. No. 6,732,377 (Wilkinson); U.S. Pat. No. 5,511,248 (Widdemer); U.S. Pat. No. 5,164,231 (Davis); and U.S. Pat. No. 3,255,461 (Bullock). The efforts for the most part are directed to the exterior contact surface of the glove and the handle surface of the sports implement. However, a major additional component of the problem of slippage is slippage of the hand within the glove, which leads to inaccurate placement or contact of the ball and sports implement adversely affecting accuracy and distance. The adverse effect on accuracy and shot distance is especially noticeable in golf. Slippage of the hand within the glove wastes energy and creates muscle strain because the player will more tightly grip the implement like a golf club to compensate actual and perceived slippage of the hand and golf club creating fatigue, lower shot distance and loss of concentration.

[0008] In golf, the mechanics of how the golf club is held and gripped are well known to influence the accuracy and distance placement of the ball. Small changes have large and sometimes catastrophic consequences in a player's game. One major problem, which the present invention seeks to expeditiously and inexpensively correct is slippage of the hand within the sports glove, a problem that leads to inaccurate placement or improper contact or strike of the implement and the ball. The problem of slippage of the hand within the sports glove has been previously recognized in disclosure of Widdemer. Widdemer's solution is a costly and complicated internal layer of embossed, raised or ridged material applied separately applied to the glove layer forming a "sandwich" layer structure. The raised areas of the applied layer increases or generates friction between the glove and the hand to reduce slippage.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0009] The present invention solves the problem of internal slippage between the glove and hand by simple and inexpensive means through a coated or impregnated layer of releasable or pressure sensitive contact adhesive on the interior of the sports glove.

DETAIL DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0014] The present inventive sports glove 1 has palm region 2 and fingers 3. Region 2 represents an area corresponding to the interior surface of the glove in direct contact with the palm of the hand of the glove wearer. Unlike Widdemer, the present inventive glove does not rely on a complicated and expensive separate layer of special material with raised pattern to increase friction, which is applied to the glove layer to form a multilayer composite glove material, instead uses a simple coated on or impregnated readily and commercially available releasable adhesive. The adhesive can simply be applied to the finished glove or during its assembly by very simple means such as by painting or brushing or spraying. No specialized equipment or process steps are required. The adhesive coverage area on region 2 is sufficient to prevent slippage of the hand within the glove as the sports implement like a golf club is gripped and swung. The coverage area of adhesive may be a substantially uniform or uniform applied adhesive coating or impregnation of within the area defined by interior contact surface region 2 of the glove. The applied adhesive may be in the form of a pattern as exemplified by the adhesive stripes 5 of FIG. 2; dots 5 (or alternatively polygons)of FIG. 3; or chevrons 6 of FIG. 4. The arrangement of the pattern or the shape of the area of applied adhesive can be in any form that provides sufficient anti-slip property to the glove. The stripes, while shown in an angled diagonal orientation, can be, for example, arranged parallel or non-parallel, horizontally, vertically or as chevrons or herringbone. The stripes can be continuous or non-continuous lines, like dashes. The dots can be asymmetrical, non-circular or polygon in shape and uniformly or non-uniformly arranged. It is noted that the adhesive can be applied into the finger areas as long as sufficient application of adhesive prevents slippage of the hand within the glove.

[0015] The adhesive used can be selected from well known releasable or contact pressure sensitive releasable adhesive that will adhere to the wearer's palm to prevent the hand slipping within the glove during gripping and swinging the sport implement and permit removal of the glove from the hand. It can be as simple as contact rubber cement or the types used for adhesive bandages. Other examples can be found in U.S. Pat. No. 5,774,889 (Gochanour) incorporated herein by reference.

[0016] The present inventive glove may have holes or perforations 7 that communicate or extend between or through the exterior of the glove to the interior of the glove to ventilate and allow air to circulate or contact the wearer's hand and thereby cool and reduce sweating of the palm of the hand of the wearer. The size or diameter of the perforations or holes can be as small as a pin hole and number of perforations or holes is such that it does not interfere with the wearer's grip of the implement.
