Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001] 1. Field of the Invention

[0002] The present invention relates to a seat, and more particularly to an adjustable and pivotable seat.

[0003] 2. Description of Related Art

[0004] A conventional seat includes a base, a back, and a connector. The base has a bottom provided for mounting an air pressure pump to adjust a height of the base. The back is mounted on the base. The connector is a L-shaped steel sheet and has a first end fixed on the base and a second end being perpendicular to the first end and connected to the back. The base and the back are able to slightly pivot relative to each other due to a steel restitution force of the connector.

[0005] However, a pivot angle of the back relative to the base is relied on the steel restitution force of the connector and is restricted, such that the back of the conventional seat only provides a slightly elasticity. The pivot angle of the back relative the base is not truly adjustable.

[0006] To overcome the shortcomings, the present invention tends to provide an adjustable and pivotable seat to mitigate or obviate the aforementioned problems.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0007] The main objective of the invention is to provide an adjustable and pivotable seat that includes a base, a backrest plate and an adjusting rod. The base has a receiving portion disposed on one end of the base. The receiving portion has a receiving space defined in the receiving portion and an opening inclinedly defined through the receiving portion. The opening extends toward a bottom of the base and communicates with the receiving space. The backrest plate is pivotally connected with the base. The backrest plate has a series of teeth disposed on the backrest plate and a series of slots respectively defined in between the series of teeth. The series of teeth is correspondingly received in the receiving space in the base and is movable relative to the receiving portion. Each slot is disposed between adjacent two of the series of teeth and extends toward an upper part of the backrest plate which is located higher than the series of teeth. The adjusting rod is selectively inserted into the opening and selectively engages one of the series of slots. The adjusting rod has at least one connecting arm extending from the adjusting rod for movably connecting with the base.

[0008] Other objects, advantages and novel features of the invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENT

[0018] With reference to FIGS. 1 and 2, an adjustable and pivotable seat in accordance with the present invention comprises a base 10, a backrest plate 20, an adjusting rod 30 and at least one elastomer 40. The backrest plate 10 is hingedly mounted on the base 10. The adjusting rod 30 is pivotally mounted on the base 10. Each elastomer 40 is provided for connecting the adjusting rod 30 to the base 10.

[0019] With reference to FIGS. 3 to 4, the base 10 is a plate-like structure and has an inner side provided for sitting and an outer side opposite to the inner side. The base 10 has two curved pivotal portions 11 protruding from the base 10 for hingedly connecting with the backrest plate 20. The base 10 has at least one connecting hole 12 defined in the outer side of the base 10 for assembling with a supporting mechanism. The supporting mechanism can be an air pressure pump or a roller set. Each pivotal portion 11 has a receiving portion 111 protruding from the pivotal portion 11 and a pivotal hole 112 defined in a side of the pivotal portion 11 for hingedly assembling with the backrest plate 20. Each receiving portion 111 has a receiving space 113 defined in an inner side of the receiving portion 111, an opening 114 defined inclinedly defined through the receiving portion 111 and communicating with the receiving space 113, and a fixing groove 115 defined in a side of the receiving portion 111. Each opening 114 inclinedly extends toward a bottom surface of the outer side of the base 10.

[0020] The backrest plate 20 is a plate-like structure and has an inner side provided for resting a user's back and an outer side opposite to the inner side. The backrest plate 20 has two curved connecting portions 21 protruding from the backrest plate 20 and respectively corresponding to the two pivotal portions 11 for hingedly connecting with the two pivotal portions 11, such that the two connecting portions 21 are respectively received in the two pivotal portions 11 and are hingedly movable. Each connecting portion 21 has multiple teeth 22 protruding from the connecting portion 21 and multiple slots 23 respectively defined in between teeth 22, such that each slot 23 is disposed between adjacent two of teeth 22. The teeth 22 of each connecting portion 21 are movably received in the receiving space 113 in the receiving portion 111 of the corresponding pivotal portion 11. Each slot 23 extends toward an upper part of the backrest plate 20 which is located higher than the teeth 22.

[0021] With reference to FIG. 5, the adjusting rod 30 has at least one connecting arm 31 disposed on the adjusting rod 30, preferably, the adjusting rod 30 has two connecting arms 31 extending from the adjusting rod 30. Each connecting arm 31 is perpendicular to the adjusting rod 30 and has a tip 32 extending inwardly from the connecting arm 31 for inserting into the corresponding fixing groove 115 in the receiving portion 111, such that the adjusting rod 30 is pivotable relative to the base 10 at an axis of a linear connection of the two tips 32. The adjusting rod 30 is selectively inserted into the two openings 114 of the two receiving portions 111 of the base 10 and is selectively received in two aligning slots 23 in the two connecting portions 21 of the backrest plate 20.

[0022] Preferably, an amount of the at least one elastomer 40 is two. The two elastomers 40 are respectively mounted adjacent to the two receiving portions 111. Each elastomer 40 has two ends respectively fixed on the adjusting rod 30 and the fixing groove 115 of the adjacent receiving portion 111.

[0023] With reference to FIGS. 6 and 7, the backrest plate 20 is hingedly pivoted relative to the base 10 and is foldable on the base 10.

[0024] With reference FIG. 4, in an initial stage, the adjusting rod 30 is inserted into the two openings 114 and is received in the two aligning slots 23 for engaging two of teeth 22. Each opening 114 inclinedly extends toward the bottom surface of the base 10 and the each slot 23 inclinedly extends toward the upper part of the backrest plate 20, such that adjusting rod 30 is locked in the two openings 114 and the two aligning slots 23 along difference directions. The backrest plate 20 is restricted by the adjusting rod 30 and is fixed relative to the base 10.

[0025] With reference FIG. 8, when the adjusting rod 30 is pivotally pulled at the axis of the linear connection of the two tips 32 and is detached from the two opening 114. The backrest plate 20 is released and is pivotable relative to the base 10 such that an angle between the backrest plate 20 relative to the base 10 can be adjusted. When the adjusting rod 30 is released, the two elastomers 50 are elastically pull the adjusting rod 30 to restore the adjusting rod 30 into the two opening 114 and be received in other two aligning slots 23.

[0026] With reference to FIG. 9, due to the decoration and comfort, the base 10 and the backrest plate 20 are respectively assembled with two sponges 50. Two leather coats 60 are respectively covered on the base 10 and the backrest plate 20 such that the seat in accordance with the present invention is formed as an adjustable sofa.

[0027] Even though numerous characteristics and advantages of the present invention have been set forth in the foregoing description, together with details of the structure and function of the invention, the disclosure is illustrative only, and changes may be made in detail, especially in matters of shape, size, and arrangement of parts within the principles of the invention to the full extent indicated by the broad general meaning of the terms in which the appended claims are expressed.
