BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0004] The present invention relates to male underwear; and, more particularly, to male boxer shorts with inner integrated fabric liner. Current male underwear consists of three basic styles: the boxer, the brief, and the boxer brief. The boxer is the least supportive and one of the most appealing from an ascetic standpoint. The brief is the most supportive but conversely one of the least aesthetically appealing. The boxer brief is an attempted combination of the boxer and the brief with the long legs of a boxer but the high level of support and compression of a brief

[0005] It is well known that males with fertility problems desire underwear that allows the male genitalia to hang naturally away from the body's heat, thus these individuals tend to wear boxers. It is also well known that without adequate support the male genitalia can become harmed during exercise or rapid motion or movement. Further, individuals who have suffered trauma to the genitals or are recovering from surgery to the genitals require gentile effective support that is not provided with current medical underwear such as straps, slings, and harnesses.

[0006] U.S. Pat. No. 5,978,971 to Wald discloses a boxer short with an integrated male brief not visible from the outside of the garment. The '971 patent further discloses that any brief with a no-fly front may be used. The underwear of the '971 patent provides the increased support of a brief without the benefit of an integral fly.

[0007] Therefore, there is a need for a male undergarment which combines the style and look of boxer shorts with the added benefit of the minimal support and comfort for the male anatomy that a fabric liner provides. Further, this liner includes a fly for easy access to the male anatomy during urination. The level of support provided by the fabric liner is different from and lower than a traditional boxer brief or brief. Additionally, underwear of the type disclosed, will meet the medical needs and fertility needs of men who cannot comfortably wear boxers due to the lack of support, and who cannot comfortably wear briefs or boxer briefs due to the higher level of support and compression they provide.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0008] An improved male undergarment is provided that has the exterior appearance of a boxer short but includes an inner liner composed of fabric to offer a minimal amount of support. The undergarment comprises a boxer short, an inner liner, and a single elastic waistband. The boxer short is of a standard cut and construction as those seen in the marketplace. The boxer short acts a shell for the inner liner so as to conceal the liner from an observer. The boxer short can be composed of standard materials commonly used for boxer shorts such as cotton, silk, satin, polyester, microfibers, performance fabrics, or other fabrics known or not known. The boxer short is defined at a top periphery by the elastic waistband. The elastic waistband covers the circumference of the top periphery and provides tension to securely attach the undergarment to the wearer. The tension of the waistband is sized according to the size of the garment and provides even and comfortable tension as perceived by the wearer of the undergarment.

[0009] The boxer short includes a first fly. The first fly is an aperture at the crotch of the boxer short covered with a flap of material. The first fly allows access to the inner liner of the undergarment. The first fly may be secured with a button or similar closure. The first fly will be orientated to correspond to the male anatomy and any similar apertures in an over garment such as pants or shorts.

[0010] The inner liner is located interior to the boxer short and provides a minimal amount of even and comfortable support to the male anatomy of the wearer. The inner liner includes a top edge extending the circumference of the boxer short and a pair of leg openings. The support offered by the inner liner is less than the support of a traditional brief or boxer brief, but more than the support offered by a traditional boxer short.

[0011] The inner liner may be attached to the boxer short below the waistband, to the junction of the waistband and the boxer short, or to the waistband itself The preferred method of attachment is sewing the top edge of the inner liner into the boxer short at the base of the elastic waistband. The inner liner is constructed out of a material that offers comfort, flexibility, and gentle effective minimal support to the anatomy of the wearer. Preferably, this liner is a mesh or mesh like material that offers the additional properties of breathability, flexibility, odor repellence, and moisture wicking properties. In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the inner liner is a mesh or mesh like fabric comprised of a Lycra, Spandex, nylon, polyester, or some combination thereof and contains an elasticized leg opening.

[0012] The inner liner includes a second fly. The second fly is orientated to align with the first fly and allow the user access to the interior of the inner liner. The second fly and the first fly directly correspond to each other so user may access both the first fly and the second fly simultaneously for access to the interior of the undergarment and the male anatomy during urination.

[0013] It is important that the support and compression offered by the inner liner is not the same as the compression and support offered by a traditional brief or a boxer brief. The compression must be less than a traditional brief and more like the support of a swimsuit liner. This amount of compression provides the wearer the benefits and comfort of a boxer short with a level of support that a traditional boxer short cannot provide.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SEVERAL VIEWS OF THE DRAWING(S)

[0014] The accompanying drawings are included to provide a further understanding of the present invention and are incorporated in and constitute a part of this specification. The drawings illustrate exemplary embodiments of the present invention and together with the description serve to further explain the principles of the invention. Other aspects of the invention and the advantages of the invention will be better appreciated as they become better understood by reference to the Detailed Description when considered in conjunction with accompanying drawings, and wherein:

[0015] FIG. 1 is a front view of the undergarment according to the present invention; and

[0016] FIG. 2 is a front view of the undergarment with the liner pulled inside-out according to the present invention.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0017] Referring now to FIG. 1-2, a front view of the undergarment according to the present invention, generally referred to as 10 there is shown a boxer short 101, a inner liner 102, and a single elastic waistband 103. The boxer short 101 is constructed and cut similar to an existing boxer short. The boxer short 101 can be composed of standard materials commonly used for boxer shorts such as cotton, silk, satin, polyester, microfibers, or other fabrics known or not known. The boxer short 101 is defined at a top periphery by the single elastic waistband 103. The single elastic waistband 103 covers the circumference of the top periphery and provides tension to securely attach the undergarment 10 to the wearer. The tension of the waistband 103 is sized according to the size of the garment and provides even and comfortable tension as perceived by the wearer of the undergarment 10.

[0018] The boxer short 101 includes a first fly 111. The first fly 111 is an aperture at the crotch of the boxer short 101 covered with a flap of material. The first fly 111 allows access to the inner liner 102 of the undergarment 10. The first fly 111 may be secured with a button or similar closure. The first fly 111 will be orientated to correspond to the male anatomy and any similar apertures in an over garment such as pants or shorts.

[0019] The inner liner 102 is located interior to the boxer short 101 and provides a minimal amount of even and comfortable support to the male anatomy of the wearer. The inner liner 102 includes a top edge 122 extending the circumference of the boxer short 101 and a pair of leg openings 121. The support offered by the inner liner 102 is less than the support of a traditional brief or boxer brief, but more than the support offered by a traditional boxer short.

[0020] The inner liner 102 may be attached to the boxer short 101 below the waistband 103, to the junction of the waistband 103 and the boxer short 101, or to the waistband 103 itself The preferred method of attachment is sewing the top edge 122 of the inner liner 102 into the boxer short 101 at the base of the elastic waistband 103. The inner liner 102 is constructed out a material that offers that offers comfort, flexibility, and gentle effective minimal support to the anatomy of the wearer. Preferably, this inner liner 102 is a mesh or mesh like material that offers the additional properties of breathability, flexibility, odor repellence, and moisture wicking properties. In the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the support liner 102 is mesh or mesh like material similar to a swimsuit liner and is comprised of a Lycra, Spandex, nylon, polyester, or some combination thereof and contains an elasticized leg opening 123.

[0021] The inner liner 102 includes a second fly 120. The second fly 120 is an aperture at the crotch of the liner 102 covered with a flap of material. The second fly 120 is orientated to align with the first fly 111 and allow a user access to the interior of the inner liner 102 when urinating. The second fly 120 and the first fly 111 apertures directly correspond to each other so the user may access both the first fly 111 and the second fly 120 simultaneously.

[0022] It is important that the support and compression offered by the inner liner 102 is not the same as the compression and support offered by a traditional brief or boxer brief. The compression must be less than a traditional brief or boxer brief and more like the support of a swimsuit liner. This amount of compression provides the wearer the benefits and comfort of a boxer short with some support that a boxer short cannot provide.
