DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0037] In the following description of the embodiments, references
to the accompanying drawings are by way of illustration of an
example by which the invention may be practiced. It will be
understood that other embodiments may be made without departing
from the scope of the invention disclosed.
[0038] Now referring to FIG. 1, there is shown an embodiment of a
multi-direction garment display module 100 according to one
embodiment.
[0039] The garment display module 100 is used for displaying a
plurality of garments, not shown in FIG. 1, each of the garments
being suspended using a hanger.
[0040] More precisely, the garment display module 100 comprises a
base frame or frame 101 which is adapted for resting on a ground
surface. In the illustrated embodiment, the frame 101 is placed
directly on the ground surface. Alternatively, the frame 101 may
instead be mounted on legs.
[0041] In one embodiment, the frame 101 is made of metal such as
steel. Alternatively, the frame 101 may be made of any other
material deemed suitable by the skilled addressee.
[0042] The frame 101 comprises a plurality of frame edges or edges.
In the illustrated embodiment, the frame 101 comprises four edges
defining a quadrilateral. More specifically, the frame 101
comprises a first edge 102, a second edge 104, a third edge 106 and
a fourth edge 108. In one embodiment, the first, second, third and
fourth edges 102, 104, 106, 108 are disposed at right angles
relative to each other to thereby define a rectangle. In a further
embodiment, the first, second, third and fourth edges 102, 104,
106, 108 are all equal in length to thereby define a square.
[0043] The garment display module 100 further comprises a plurality
of garment display assemblies, each of which is mounted on a
corresponding frame member of the frame 101. In the illustrated
embodiment for instance, the plurality of garment display
assemblies comprises first, second, third and fourth garment
display assemblies 150, 152, 154, 156 which are respectively
mounted on the first, second, third and fourth edges 102, 104, 106,
108 of the frame 101.
[0044] Furthermore, the first, second, third and fourth garment
display assemblies 150, 152, 154, 156 are disposed such that each
garment display assembly may display a corresponding set of
garments in a corresponding viewing direction. Still in the
illustrated embodiment, the first garment display assembly 150 is
configured to display first and second sets of garments 400, 402 in
a first display direction D.sub.1. Specifically, the first display
direction D.sub.1 is generally parallel to the first edge 102 and
enables an observer, such as a customer or the like, who is
standing near the second edge 104 of the frame 101, to view the
first and second sets of garments 400, 402.
[0045] In the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 4, the garments
comprise shirts and/or ensembles comprising a top such as a shirt
and matching pants, which are suspended using hangers.
Alternatively, the garments may comprise pants or any other types
of garments. A person skilled in the art will appreciate that a
garment suspended from a hanger adopts a relatively flat
configuration and defines a front face corresponding generally to a
front portion of the garment and a back face corresponding
generally to a back portion of the garment. When looking towards
the garment display module 100 from a viewing position near the
second edge 104 of the frame 101, the observer views the front face
of the garments, which advantageously enables him to appreciate the
garments and may further advantageously entice the observer to buy
the garment.
[0046] Alternatively, the back face of the garment may be displayed
to the observer in the first display direction D.sub.1, instead of
the front face. This may be advantageous in an embodiment in which
the garments comprise sports jerseys, for instance, and in which it
is desirable that a number and/or a name printed on the back face
be visible to the observer.
[0047] Still in the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 4, the second
garment display assembly 152 is configured to display third and
fourth sets of garments 404, 406 in a second display direction
D.sub.2. Specifically, the second display direction D.sub.2 is
generally parallel to the second frame member 104 and enables the
observer standing near the third edge 106 of the frame 101 to view
the front face of the third and fourth sets of garments 404, 406.
It will be appreciated that the second display direction D.sub.2 is
also generally perpendicular to the first display direction
D.sub.1.
[0048] Still in the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 4, the third
garment display assembly 154 is configured to display a fifth set
of garments, not shown, and a sixth set of garments 408 in a third
display direction D.sub.3. Specifically, the third display
direction D.sub.3 is generally parallel to the third edge 106 and
enables the observer standing near the fourth edge 108 of the frame
101 to view the front face of the fifth and sixth sets of garments
408. It will be appreciated that the third display direction
D.sub.3 is also generally opposed to the first display direction
D.sub.1, and perpendicular to the second viewing direction
D.sub.2.
[0049] Still in the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 4, the fourth
garment display assembly 156 is configured to display seventh and
eighth sets of garments 410, 412 in a fourth display direction
D.sub.4. Specifically, the fourth display direction D.sub.4 is
generally parallel to the fourth edge 108 and enables the observer
standing near the first edge 102 of the frame 101 to view the front
face of the seventh and eighth sets of garments 410, 412. It will
be appreciated that the fourth display direction D.sub.4 is also
generally opposed to the second display direction D.sub.2, and
perpendicular to the first and third display directions D.sub.1 and
D.sub.3.
[0050] This configuration advantageously enables garments to be
observed from a plurality of directions and from a plurality of
viewing positions around the garment display module, while
occupying a relatively minimal amount of floor space. All the
garments may therefore advantageously be viewed by an observer
moving around in a full circle around the garment display module
100, or simultaneously by a plurality of observers standing at
different viewing positions around the garment display module
100.
[0051] Referring now to FIGS. 1, 2, 3 and 4, the first display
assembly 150 will now be described. It will be appreciated that the
second, third and fourth display assemblies 152, 154, 156 are
substantially similar to the first display assembly 150 and do not
need to be described for the skilled addressee to be able to fully
understand the structure and workings of the garment display module
100.
[0052] The first display assembly 150 comprises a first top bracket
member 110 and a first bottom bracket member 112, which are used
for receiving respectively top and bottom sets of garments, which
in this embodiment comprise the first and second sets of garments
400, 402. The first top bracket member 110 and the first bottom
bracket member 112 are both secured to the first edge 102 of the
frame 101 and extend upwardly therefrom.
[0053] The first top bracket member 110 comprises a top horizontal
portion 302 for receiving garments using hangers and a bottom
portion 300 for securing the first top bracket member 110 to the
first edge 102.
[0054] More specifically, the first edge 102 comprises a first end
portion 350, a second end portion 352 and an intermediate portion
354 extending between the first and second portions 350, 352. The
bottom portion 300 of the first top bracket member 110 extends
between the intermediate portion 354 of the first edge 102 and the
top horizontal portion 302 such that the top horizontal portion 302
is located at a first height H.sub.1. It will be appreciated that
the first height H.sub.1 may be selected to enable an averagely
sized person to readily access the top horizontal portion 302 in
order to easily remove garments therefrom.
[0055] In the embodiment illustrated in FIG. 3, the first top
bracket member 110 has a generally T-shaped configuration. More
specifically, the top horizontal portion 302 comprises a first end
portion 356 which extends in the first display direction D.sub.1
for receiving the first set of garments 400. In the illustrated
embodiment, the top horizontal portion 302 further comprises a
second end portion 358 which extends in a direction opposite the
first display direction D.sub.1 for receiving another set of
garments, or first opposite set of garments 414, as shown in FIG.
4. It will be appreciated that this first opposite set of garments
414 is displayed in a direction opposite the first display
direction D.sub.1, i.e. direction D.sub.3.
[0056] Still in the illustrated embodiment, the first bottom
bracket member 112 comprises a top horizontal portion 310 for
receiving garments using hangers and a bottom portion 308 for
securing the first bottom bracket member 112 to the first edge 102
such that the first bottom bracket member 112 is spaced from the
first top bracket member 110 in the first display direction
D.sub.1.
[0057] More specifically, the bottom portion 308 of the first
bottom bracket member 112 extends between the first end portion 350
of the first edge 102 and the top horizontal portion 310 such that
the top horizontal portion 310 of the first bottom bracket member
112 is located at a second height H.sub.2.
[0058] In the illustrated embodiment, the first bottom bracket
member 112 is generally L-shaped and the top horizontal portion 310
comprises a projecting end portion 360 projecting away from the
bottom portion 308 of the first bottom bracket member 112 and
towards the first display direction D.sub.1 for receiving the
second set of garments 402.
[0059] Both the first and second sets of garments 400, 402, when
mounted respectively on the first top and bottom bracket members
110, 112, are thus displayed in the first display direction
D.sub.1. To enable the observer to view both the first and second
sets of garments 400, 402 without having to manipulate the
garments, the second height H.sub.2 of the first bottom bracket
member 112 is lower than the first height H.sub.1 of the first top
bracket member 110, as shown in FIG. 3. In this configuration, the
first set of garments 400 is not completely hidden by the second
set of garments 402, but is instead at least partially exposed over
the second set of garments 402 to the observer standing near the
second edge 104 of the frame 101, as explained above.
[0060] It will be appreciated that the second height H.sub.2 may
further be selected so as to be sufficient to prevent the second
set of garments 402 suspended from the first bottom bracket member
112 from contacting the ground.
[0061] In one embodiment, the first top bracket member 110 is
extendible to enable the first height H.sub.1 to be selected
amongst a plurality of heights. The first bottom bracket member 110
may also be extendible to enable the second height H.sub.2 to be
selected amongst a plurality of heights. In this embodiment, it may
therefore be possible to select the first and second heights
H.sub.1 and H.sub.2 according, for instance, to the size of the
garments to be displayed.
[0062] In one embodiment, the bottom portion 300 of the first top
bracket member 110 comprises a male segment, for instance a square
tube of 1/2 inch, longitudinally and slidably engaging a female
segment, for instance a square tube of 3/4 inch. A pin may be used
to removably lock together the male and female segments such that
the top horizontal portion 302 of the first top bracket member 110
is located at a desired height. The bottom portion 300 of the first
bottom bracket member 112 may be provided with a similar
