SIDE-PUSH TYPE COMPOSITE PUTTY KNIFE

Abstract

A side-push type composite putty knife which comprises a handle and a blade with a rear end of the blade inserted into a blade receiving slot at a front end of the handle. The rear end of the blade has a blade tang which is provided with a fixing notch on a side thereof. A lateral gliding slot which is in communication with the blade receiving slot is disposed at the front end of the handle inside its casing. A latch and a reset spring pressing against a first end of the latch are disposed inside the lateral gliding slot. A pressing part is formed by a second end of the latch which extends outwardly from a side of the casing at the front end of the handle. A pin is disposed at the first end of the latch which presses against the reset spring. When the blade tang is inserted into the blade receiving slot at the front end of the handle, the pin engages with the fixing notch of the blade tang. The engagement between the latch on the handle and the fixing notch on the blade allows the handle and the blade of the present invention to be removably assembled, and therefore fulfill the object of replacing blades of different specifications on the same handle. Cost of use will be lower accordingly and carrying the knives becomes more convenient.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001] The present invention relates to a hand tool for painting and construction, especially a side-push type composite putty knife.

[0002] A conventional putty knife usually has its blade fixedly connected with its handle. However, as putty knives of different widths should be used according to different construction situations, users have to carry a number of putty knives with them when they work outdoor. Carrying the knives is not only inconvenient, but also increases the cost of use.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0003] In view of the disadvantages now present in the prior art, the present invention provides a side-push type composite putty knife that allows blades of different specifications to be replaced on the same handle, thereby lowering the cost of use and bringing greater convenience for users to carry the knife.

[0004] To attain this, the present invention adopts the following technical proposals:

[0005] A side-push type composite putty knife which comprises a handle and a blade with a rear end of the blade inserted into a blade receiving slot at a front end of the handle; the rear end of the blade has a blade tang which is provided with a fixing notch on a side thereof; a lateral gliding slot which is in communication with the blade receiving slot is disposed at the front end of the handle inside its casing; a latch and a reset spring pressing against a first end of the latch are disposed inside the lateral gliding slot; a pressing part is formed by a second end of the latch which extends outwardly from a side of the casing at the front end of the handle; a pin is disposed at the first end of the latch which presses against the reset spring; when the blade tang is inserted into the blade receiving slot at the front end of the handle, the pin engages with the fixing notch of the blade tang.

[0006] A blocking step is disposed inside the gliding slot to prevent the latch from slipping off, and a protrusion corresponding to the blocking step is disposed on the latch.

[0007] The latch is disposed at a lower side of the blade receiving slot, and the pin is formed by protruding upwardly from the first end of the latch that presses against the reset spring.

[0008] A latch cover is disposed on the pressing part of the latch.

[0009] The handle is formed by a metal handle member, a plastic handle member and a soft leather handle member disposed from inside to outside, with the blade tang inserted into the metal handle member.

[0010] Due to the adoption of the above technical proposals, the present invention has the following advantages over the prior art:

[0011] The engagement between the latch on the handle and the fixing notch on the blade allows the handle and the blade of the present invention to be removably assembled, and therefore fulfill the object of replacing blades of different specifications on the same handle. Cost of use will be lower accordingly. Besides, spare blades could be stored in a simple blade container for carrying around, thus enhance convenience of use. Furthermore, to replace the blade, it is only necessary to press the latch on one side to release the pin of the latch from the fixing notch on the blade tang. Disassembling and assembling of the blade could be achieved easily and quickly.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0012] FIG. 1 shows a top view of the side-push type composite putty knife of the present invention before assembly.

[0013] FIG. 2 shows a top view of the side-push type composite putty knife of the present invention after assembly.

[0014] FIG. 3 shows a sectional view along line A-A of FIG. 2.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0015] As illustrated in FIGS. 1, 2 and 3, the side-push type composite putty knife of the present invention comprises a handle 1 and a blade 2 with a rear end of the blade 2 inserted into a blade receiving slot 11 at a front end of the handle 1. The rear end of the blade 2 has a blade tang 21 which is provided with a fixing notch 22 on a side thereof. A lateral gliding slot 3 which is in communication with the blade receiving slot 11 is disposed at the front end of the handle 1 inside its casing. A latch 4 and a reset spring 5 pressing against a first end of the latch 4 are disposed inside the lateral gliding slot 3. A pressing part 41 is formed by a second end of the latch 4 which extends outwardly from a side of the casing at the front end of the handle 1. A latch cover 6 is disposed on the pressing part 41 of the latch 4 for the comfort of pressing. A pin 42 is disposed at the first end of the latch 4 which presses against the reset spring 5. When the blade tang 21 is inserted into the blade receiving slot 11 at the front end of the handle, the pin 42 engages with the fixing notch 22 of the blade tang 21.

[0016] As mentioned above, to assemble the blade, press the latch 4 of the pressing part 41 to one side (in the direction indicated by the arrow in FIG. 1) first so that the pin 42 on the latch 4 moves towards one side, and then insert the blade tang 21 into the blade receiving slot 11 at the front end of the handle 1 until the entire blade tang 21 is inserted therein; release the pressing part 41 and the latch 4 will return to its original position in the direction indicated by the arrow in FIG. 2 under the effect of the reset spring 5; meanwhile, the pin 42 on the latch 4 engages with the fixing notch 22 on the blade tang 21 and lock the handle 1 and the blade 2 together. To replace the blade, press the latch 4 on one side to release the pin 42 of the latch 4 from the fixing notch 22 on the blade tang 21 to remove the blade and then insert another blade of the desired specification.

[0017] As illustrated in FIG. 3, a blocking step 31 is disposed inside the gliding slot 3 to prevent the latch 4 from slipping off, and a protrusion 43 corresponding to the blocking step 31 is disposed on the latch 4. The latch 4 is disposed at a lower side of the blade receiving slot 11, and the pin 42 is formed by protruding upwardly from the first end of the latch 4 that presses against the reset spring 5.

[0018] As illustrated in FIGS. 1 and 2, in order to enhance the rigidity of the handle, the handle 1 is formed by a metal handle member 12, a plastic handle member 13 and a soft leather handle member 14 disposed from inside to outside; the blade tang 21 is inserted into the metal handle member 12.
