Dual-purpose dumbbell

Abstract

A dual-purpose dumbbell has a bar, two weights and two adjusting assemblies. The bar has two ends. The two weights are mounted rotatably respectively on the ends of the bar and can be configured longitudinally or transversely relative to the bar. The adjusting assemblies are mounted respectively between the ends of the bar and the weights to allow the weights rotated relative to the bar. When the weights are configured longitudinally, the dual-purpose dumbbell is used as a dumbbell or a weighted baton. When the weights of the dual-purpose dumbbell are configured transversely, the dual-purpose dumbbell can be used as a handle for doing pushups. Since the dual-purpose dumbbell can be used as a dumbbell, a weighted baton and a handle for use when doing pushups, less space is required to store exercise equipment and less cost is incurred to procure the exercise equipment.

Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0001] 1. Field of the Invention

[0002] The present invention relates to a dual-purpose dumbbell and especially to a dual-purpose dumbbell that can be used in different exercises.

[0003] 2. Description of the Prior Arts

[0004] Most sports appliances have a single use. If a person wants to do different exercises, different sports appliances are required, which cost more money and requires more space for storage.

[0005] To overcome the shortcomings, the present invention provides a dual-purpose dumbbell to mitigate or obviate the aforementioned problems.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0006] The main objective of the present invention is to provide a dual-purpose dumbbell that can be used as a conventional weight or a handle for pushups.

[0007] A dual-purpose dumbbell in accordance with the present invention has a bar, two weights and two adjusting assemblies. The bar has two ends. The two weights are mounted rotatably respectively on the ends of the bar and can be configured longitudinally or transversely relative to the bar. The adjusting assemblies are mounted respectively between the ends of the bar and the weights to allow the weights rotated relative to the bar. When the weights are configured longitudinally, the dual-purpose dumbbell is used as a conventional dumbbell or a weighted baton. When the weights of the dual-purpose dumbbell are configured transversely, the dual-purpose dumbbell can be used as a handle for doing pushups. Since the dual-purpose dumbbell can be used as a conventional dumbbell, a weighted baton and a handle for use when doing pushups, less space is required to store exercise equipment and less cost is incurred to procure the exercise equipment.

[0008] Other objectives, advantages and novel features of the invention will become more apparent from the following detailed description when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0009] FIG. 1 is a perspective of a dual-purpose dumbbell in accordance with the present invention;

[0010] FIG. 2 is an exploded perspective view of the dual-purpose dumbbell in FIG. 1;

[0011] FIG. 3 is a side view in partial section of the dual-purpose dumbbell in FIG. 1;

[0012] FIG. 4 is an operational side view in partial section of the dual-purpose dumbbell in FIG. 1 with one weight adjusted transversely to the bar;

[0013] FIG. 5 is operational side view in partial section of a dual-purpose dumbbell in FIG. 1 converted to a handle for use during pushups;

[0014] FIG. 6 is another perspective view of the sport appliance of dual purpose in FIG. 1; and

[0015] FIG. 7 is an operational perspective of the dual-purpose dumbbell in FIG. 1 used during pushups.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

[0016] With reference to FIG. 1, the dual-purpose dumbbell in accordance with the present invention is selectively used as a weight and a handle used when performing pushups and comprises a bar (10), two weights (20), two adjusting assemblies and an optional grip (30).

[0017] With further reference to FIG. 2, the bar (10) has two ends (11) and may have an outer surface (12) and two through holes (13).

[0018] With further reference to FIG. 3, each end (11) may have an inclined surface. Each inclined surface has a center and a locking recess (111). The locking recess (111) is non-circular, is geometric with a 90.degree. increment and is formed at the center of the end (11).

[0019] The outer surface (12) may be cylindrical.

[0020] The through holes (13) are formed perpendicularly respectively through the centers of the inclined surfaces of the ends (11) and communicate with the outer surface (12) of the bar (10). Each through hole (13) has a countersink (131). The countersink (131) communicates with the outer surface (12) of the bar (10).

[0021] The weights (20) are connected adjustably respectively to the ends (11) of the bar (10). Each weight (20) may have a proximal end (21), a distal end (22), a locking protrusion (23), a fastening hole (24) and a foot (27).

[0022] The proximal end (21) is inclined, corresponds to the inclined surface of the end (11) of the bar (10) and has a center.

[0023] The distal end (22) has an optional recess.

[0024] With further reference to FIGS. 4 and 5, the locking protrusion (23) is formed concentrically on and protrudes from the proximal end (21) and corresponds to and selectively engages the locking recess (111) to hold the weight (20) in a longitudinal or transverse position relative to the bar (10).

[0025] The fastening hole (24) is formed concentrically in the locking protrusion and may be threaded.

[0026] With further reference to FIGS. 6 and 7, the foot (27) is a pliable, non-skid pad, is attached to the distal end (22) of the weight (20), keeps the dual-purpose dumbbell from slipping when being used as a handle to perform pushups and is mounted in the recess in the distal end (22) of the weight (20).

[0027] The adjusting assemblies are mounted respectively between the ends of the bar (10) and the weights (20) to allow the weights (20) being adjusted relative to the bar (10). Each adjusting assembly may have a fastener (25) and a biasing element (26).

[0028] The fastener (25) is mounted through the corresponding through hole (13) in the bar (10), connects to the fastening hole (24) in the corresponding weight (20), has an enlarged head and may be a bolt.

[0029] The biasing element (26) is mounted around the fastener (25) between the bar (10) and the enlarged head of the fastener (25), pulls the proximal end (21) of the corresponding weight (20) against the inclined surface of the corresponding end (11) of the bar (10) and may be a spring.

[0030] The grip (30) is a pliable sheath, is mounted around the bar (10) and has a non-skid outer surface.

[0031] The dual-purpose dumbbell as described can be used as a dumbbell, a weighted baton and a handle for use when doing pushups. Consequently, less space is required to store exercise equipment and less cost is incurred to procure the exercise equipment.

[0032] Even though numerous characteristics and advantages of the present invention have been set forth in the foregoing description, together with details of the structure and features of the invention, the disclosure is illustrative only. Changes may be made in the details, especially in matters of shape, size, and arrangement of parts within the principles of the invention to the full extent indicated by the broad general meaning of the terms in which the appended claims are expressed.
