Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0001] My invention relates generally to hair accessories and, more
specifically, to hair accessories that supplement the natural hair
of a user. By means of attaching supplemental hair to interlocking
clips, resulting in a hair addition and ultimately providing a user
with the ability to create the impression of a fuller head of
hair.
[0002] At least one known form of a hair piece provided for these
purposes by attaching a hair switch to a hair clip such that the
hair piece hangs from the hair clip, see U.S. Pat. No. 5,501,239.
However, hair clips are sometimes considered informal and the user
may wish to wear a hair addition without the hair clip being
visible.
[0003] Accordingly, it would be desirable to provide a hair
addition clip that has the strength to retain the user's hair in
place while creating the appearance of a fuller head of hair and
that is sufficiently light and flexible to provide a comfortable
fit to the wearer.
DESCRIPTION OF PRIOR ART
[0004] Numerous designs hair additions and or hair clips containing
supplemental hair have been provided in the prior art.
[0005] Even though these designs may be suitable for the specific
individual purposes to which they address, they would not be
suitable for the present version of the invention as they do not
embody the comfort, durability and fit of my design. These designs
are exemplified by U.S. Pat. No. 6,629,536 Hair Accessory, issued
to Lane on Oct. 7, 2003. U.S. Pat. No. 6,019,107 Detachable
Hairpiece, issued to Overmyer on Feb. 1, 2000, discloses a
detachable hair piece for attaching to existing hair to create the
appearance of longer hair, comprising of a clip that has an outer
portion and a brush portion that is pivotally coupled to the outer
portion. While the detachable hairpiece may provide the appearance
of longer hair, the hair clip is visible, and maybe considered
informal.
[0006] As such, it may be appreciated that there is a continuing
need for new and improved design and device for providing a hair
addition clip in a manner that is relatively simple and
inexpensive. In these respects, the present version of the
invention substantially departs from the conventional concepts and
designs of the prior art, and in doing so provides an apparatus
that substantially fulfils this need. Additionally, the prior
patents do not suggest the present inventive combination of
component elements arranged and configured as disclosed herein.
[0007] The present invention achieves its intended purposes,
objects and advantages through a new, useful and unobvious
combination of component elements and design, with the use of a
minimum number of functioning parts, at a reasonable cost to
manufacture and with the use of readily available materials.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0008] The general purpose of my invention, which will be described
subsequently in greater detail, is to provide a new detachable hair
piece apparatus to supplement the user's natural hair. The method
includes providing a plurality of hair strands and two interlocking
hair clips. The method further includes attaching the hair strands
to the interlocking hair clips such that the two clips are
substantially concealed by the strands when the hair piece is
attached to the user's natural hair.
[0009] To attain this, the present invention generally comprises of
2 interlocking clips for clipping to the wearers hair. The
interlocking clips are made of 100% polypropylene and have a
urethane resin coating, thus providing a flatter, closer and more
secure fit on the wearer's head and natural hair. The interlocking
clips including a body and at least one tooth extending from the
body. Each interlocking clip has predrilled holes for attaching the
artificial supplemental hair. Said method of attachment of
supplemental hair is provided via sowing with thread the plurality
of supplemental hair to the top side of each interlocking clip thru
the predrilled holes. Therefore providing the wearer with an
apparatus to create the illusion of thicker and or longer hair and
further concealing the interlocking clips, creating a natural
looking fuller head of hair. Furthermore the urethane resin coating
of the interlocking clips allow for a secure yet flexible
attachment to the wearer's natural hair.

DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
[0023] Referring now to the illustrations in particular to FIG. 1
wherein there is an actual view of the interlocking two-piece hair
addition hair accessory 10. The present version of the invention 10
consist, a set of interlocking hair clips 16, containing a
plurality of interlocking prongs 18, pre-drilled holes 12 with
thread 14 ,as a form of attaching a plurality of supplemental
synthetic or natural hair 20. In one embodiment, the interlocking
hair clips are fabricated from 100% polypropylene and coated with
100% urethane resin for a non-slip grip and is approximately 21/2
of an inch long and 31/4 of an inch wide. Known clips do not have
the urethane resin, therefore making it difficult to obtain a
secure grip. Pre-drilled holes 12 provide attachment for each weft
of hair to be secured to said interlocking clips that is attached
and secured via sowing thread 14. The predrilled holes 12 allow for
the supplemental hair 20 to be attached in a manner so that said
interlocking clips 16 are substantially concealed by the strands of
the supplemental hair 20 when clips are attached to the wearer's
head and or hair. The interlocking prongs 18, interlock with each
other to further obtain the desired effect of longer and or thicker
hair.
[0024] FIG. 2 is an inside closed view of the interlocking urethane
coated hair clips 16 without any supplemental hair 20 attached.
Said hair clips 16 includes a plurality of prongs 18 that interlock
with each other in an attached position. The interlocking hair
clips 16 have a convex-like shape, therefore allowing for a closer
and more secure fit on the wearer's head and or hair.
[0025] In FIG. 3 hair accessory 10 is in an open position.
