Description
CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION
[0001] This patent application is related to and claims priority
from U.S. Provisional Patent Application Ser. No. 60/784,324 filed
Mar. 21, 2006, the teachings of the referenced Provisional Patent
Application are incorporated herein by reference thereto.
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0002] The present invention relates, in general, to pillows and
pillow cases therefore and, more particularly, this invention
relates to a specially designed pillow to provide firm support to
the head, neck and shoulders to the person using it.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0003] Prior to the conception and development of the present
invention, as is generally well known in the prior art, various
types of pillows for sleeping on have been used and sold
commercially. Each of the prior art type pillows have been
substantially uniform in each of thickness, length, width and
firmness.
[0004] None of these prior art type pillows have been designed to
conform to specific needs in order to provide a more restful sleep
to such persons sleeping on them.
[0005] Additionally, although all of the prior art type pillow
cases have been manufactured in various types of fabrics they have
all been designed to conform to these prior art type pillows.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0006] The present invention provides, in a first aspect, a
specially designed pillow that provides enhanced support to a head,
neck and shoulder area of a person using such pillow. The specially
designed pillow includes an outer casing formed from a pre-selected
material and having a concave configuration adjacent each
longitudinal edge when such pillow is laying flat and a concave
surface adjacent an upper surface thereof when in use. The casing
further having a predetermined length and a pre-selected stuffing
material disposed within such casing.
[0007] There is provided in a second aspect, a specially designed
pillow case which includes a generally hollow casing closed at one
end thereof and having a predetermined length. Such pillow case
formed from a pre-selected material. The pillow case has a concave
configuration adjacent each longitudinal edge when a pillow
disposed therein is laying flat and a concave surface adjacent an
upper surface thereof while in use.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
[0008] It is, therefore, one of the primary objects of the present
invention to provide a specially designed pillow that provides
enhanced support to a head, neck and shoulder area of a person
using such pillow.
[0009] Another object of the present invention is to provide a
specially designed pillow which is relatively easy to produce.
[0010] Still another object of the present invention is to provide
a specially designed pillow that can be produced in a variety of
sizes.
[0011] Yet another object of the present invention is to provide a
specially designed pillow that can be produced in a variety of
harnesses.
[0012] An additional object of the present invention is to provide
a specially design pillow case to fit such specially designed
pillow.
[0013] In addition to the various objects and advantages of the
present invention described with some degree of specificity above
it should be obvious that additional objects and advantages of the
present invention will become more readily apparent to those
persons who are skilled in the relevant art from the following more
detailed description of the invention, particularly, when such
description is taken in conjunction with the attached drawing
figures and with the appended claims.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0014] FIG. 1 is front view of the specially designed pillow
according to a presently preferred embodiment of the invention;
and
[0015] FIG. 2 is a side view partially in perspective of the pillow
illustrated in FIG. 1.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF A PRESENTLY PREFERRED AND VARIOUS ALTERNATIVE
EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION
[0016] Prior to proceeding to the more detailed description of the
present invention it should be noted that, for the sake of clarity
and understanding, identical components which have identical
functions have been identified with identical reference numerals
throughout the several views illustrated in the drawing
figures.
[0017] Refer now made, more particularly, to FIGS. 1 and 2.
Illustrated therein is a specially designed pillow, generally
designate 10, for providing enhanced support to a head, neck and
shoulder area of a person using such pillow. Such specially
designed pillow including an outer casing 12 formed from a
pre-selected material. Outer casing 12 has a predetermined length
and exhibits a concave configuration 14 adjacent each longitudinal
edge 16 thereof when such pillow 10 is laying flat and a concave
surface 18 adjacent an upper surface 20 thereof when the pillow 10
is in use.
[0018] Casing 12 has a predetermined length depending upon if the
pillow 10 is to be used on a regular, queen or king size bed.
[0019] In the presently preferred embodiment of the invention the
presently preferred material for said outer casing 12 is one of
cotton rayon and muslin. Muslin is the most presently preferred
material.
[0020] There is a pre-selected stuffing material (not shown)
disposed within such casing. The pre-selected stuffing material, in
the presently preferred embodiment of the invention, is selected
from the group consisting of feathers, foam and an elastomeric
material. Foam is the presently most preferred material for
stuffing the casing 12.
[0021] The present invention further contemplates the provision of
a specially designed pillow case (not shown) comprising a generally
hollow casing closed at one end thereof and having a predetermined
length. The pillow case will be formed from a pre-selected material
and will have a concave configuration adjacent each longitudinal
edge when a pillow disposed therein is laying flat and a concave
surface adjacent an upper surface thereof while in use.
[0022] Such specially designed pillow case will be produced from a
selected from the group consisting of silk, cotton and rayon and
will be sized according to the use on either a regular, queen or
king size bed.
[0023] While a presently preferred and various alternative
embodiments of the present invention have been described in
sufficient detail above to enable a person skilled in the relevant
art to make and use the same it should be obvious that various
other adaptations and modifications can be envisioned by those
persons skilled in such art without departing from either the
spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
