Description

CROSS REFERENCE TO RELATED APPLICATION

[0001] This patent application is related to and claims priority from U.S. Provisional Patent Application Ser. No. 60/762,373 filed Jan. 26, 2006.

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0002] The present invention relates, in general, to cup holders for bottled beverages and, more particularly, this invention relates to a cup holders for bottled beverages which can be mounted to various vertically disposed surfaces.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0003] Prior to the conception and development of the present invention, as is generally well known in the prior art, cup holders for bottled beverages and glasses have been in widespread use for many years. However, these prior art type cup holders are positioned on a relatively flat surface during use.

[0004] There are many places where this is not possible such as, for example, in a work out gym. While working out it is important to have fluids available to replaces the fluids being drained from the body during strenuous exercise.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0005] The present invention provides an apparatus for holding a beverage. The apparatus comprises an elongated vertically disposed base member having each of a predetermined shape, a predetermined length and a predetermined thickness. A means is at least one of engageable with and formed through a predetermined portion of said first member for at least one of securing such first member to and hanging such first member on a vertical surface. There is a cup holder portion having a predetermined shape is disposed on a predetermined surface of such first member for holding at least one of a glass filed with a beverage and a bottled beverage.

OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION

[0006] It is, therefore, one of the primary objects of the present invention to provide an apparatus for holding a beverage which can be mounted on a vertical surface.

[0007] Another object of the present invention is to provide an apparatus for holding a beverage which can be mounted on a vertical surface wherein such vertical surface can be a post forming a part of an exercise device.

[0008] Still another object of the present invention is to provide an apparatus for holding a beverage which can be mounted on a vertical surface that is easy to produce.

[0009] Yet another object of the present invention is to provide an apparatus for holding a beverage which can be mounted on a vertical surface which is relatively inexpensive too produce.

[0010] An additional object of the present invention is to provide an apparatus for holding a beverage which can be mounted on a vertical surface which can be manufactured in a variety of shapes and colors.

[0011] In addition to the various objects and advantages of the present invention described with some degree of specificity above it should be obvious that additional objects and advantages of the present invention will become more readily apparent to those persons who are skilled in the relevant art from the following more detailed description of the invention, particularly, when such description is taken in conjunction with the attached drawing figures and with the appended claims.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0012] FIG. 1 is a front view of a presently preferred embodiment of the cup holder manufactured according to the present invention;

[0013] FIG. 2 is a perspective view of the cup holder illustrated in FIG. 1; and

[0014] FIG. 3 is perspective view illustrating the cup holder attached to a vertical post of a weight lifting device.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF A PRESENTLY PREFERRED AND VARIOUS ALTERNATIVE EMBODIMENTS OF THE INVENTION

[0015] Prior to proceeding to the more detailed description of the present invention it should be noted that, for the sake of clarity and understanding, identical components which have identical functions have been identified with identical reference numerals throughout the several views illustrated in the drawing figures.

[0016] Reference is now made, more particularly, to FIGS. 1-3 of the drawings. Illustrated therein is a presently preferred embodiment of an apparatus, generally designated 10, for holding a beverage 12. The apparatus 10 includes an elongated vertically disposed base member 14 having each of a predetermined shape, a predetermined length and a predetermined thickness. In the presently preferred embodiment of the apparatus 10 Such predetermined shape of the elongated vertically disposed base member 14 will be at least one of generally rectangular and oval. The presently most preferred predetermined shape of such elongated vertically disposed base member 14 is generally rectangular. Additionally, it is presently preferred that the base member 14 is formed from a preselected plastic so that the base member 14 can be readily manufactured in a variety of colors.

[0017] Apparatus 10 further includes a means, generally designated 20, at least one of engageable with and formed through a predetermined portion of such base member 14 for at least one of securing the base member 14 to or hanging such base member 14 on a vertical surface 16. Such vertical surface may be either a post 24 or a wall surface (not shown).

[0018] In the presently preferred embodiment of the invention, such means 20 will be at least one of engageable with and formed through such predetermined portion of such base member 14 for at least one of securing the base member 14 to or hanging the base member 14 on such vertical surface 16 is at least one of at least one aperture 18 and at least one strap 22. In the most preferred embodiment of the invention such means 20 will be at least one aperture 18 and preferably two apertures 18, with one aperture 18 being disposed closely adjacent each end of the base member 14.

[0019] The final essential element of the apparatus 10 is a cup holder portion 26. The cup holder portion 26 includes a predetermined shape and is disposed at a predetermined location on a front surface 28 of such base member 14 for holding at least one of a glass (not shown) filed with a beverage and a bottled beverage 12.

[0020] In the presently preferred embodiment of the invention the predetermined shape of such cup holder portion 26 is at least one of generally round, hexagonal and octagonal. It is most preferred that such predetermined shape of the cup holder portion 26 will be generally round.

[0021] Additionally, the presently preferred embodiment of the invention includes at least one hook like means, generally designated 30, disposed at a predetermined location on the front surface 28 of such base member 14 for holding a preselected object, generally designated 40. Such preselected object 40 will be at least one of a key 32, an article of clothing (not shown) and a phone (not shown).

[0022] While a presently preferred and various alternative embodiments of the present invention have been described in sufficient detail above to enable a person skilled in the relevant art to make and use the same it should be obvious that various other adaptations and modifications can be envisioned by those persons skilled in such art without departing from either the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.
