Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to a table leg or bench leg
assembly that can be easily assembled and includes cushion
feature.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] A conventional table or work bench generally includes a top
with four legs and each leg is connected to an underside of the
top. Some legs are pivotably connected to the top so as to be
pivoted when not in use. The pivotable legs have to be cooperated
with securing device which prevents the legs from pivoting
suddenly. The securing device requires extra parts and extra time
to be fixed to the underside of the top and the legs. Besides, the
securing device is connected between the pivotable legs and the top
so that the top is not directly connected to the top, this special
arrangement might cause the securing device to be damaged because
of the load.
[0003] The present invention intends to provide a table leg
assembly which includes a bush with a cushion lip contacting the
underside of the top and the leg is securely inserted into the
tapered inside of the bush with a securing sleeve located
therebetween. The leg assembly is easily to be assembled and
dis-assembled, and the leg is securely positioned.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0004] The present invention relates to a table assembly that
comprises a top and four table leg assemblies connected to an
underside of the top. Each table leg assembly includes a U-shaped
frame, a bush, a securing sleeve and a leg. The frame has a hole
defined through a bottom thereof and the bush having a tapered
inside and a tapered outside extends through the hole in the
corresponding frame. Each frame has a cushion lip extending
inclinedly from a periphery of a top of the bush and the cushion
lip is in contact with the underside of the top. A flange extends
from a periphery of a bottom of the bush and is fixed to an
underside of the frame. The securing sleeve is force-fitted with
the tapered inside of the bush and the leg is securely engaged with
an inside of the securing sleeve.
[0005] The present invention will become more obvious from the
following description when taken in connection with the
accompanying drawings which show, for purposes of illustration
only, a preferred embodiment in accordance with the present
invention.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
[0012] Referring to FIGS. 1 to 4, the table assembly of the present
invention comprises a top 10 and four table leg assemblies are
connected to an underside of the top 10. Each table leg assembly
includes a U-shaped frame 20, a bush 30, a securing sleeve 40 and a
leg 50.
[0013] The frame 20 has an open top and a hollow interior and a
hole 211 is defined through a bottom 21 thereof. The top 10
includes a skirt portion extending from each of tow ends thereof
and each skirt portion includes a horizontal portion 11. The frames
20 each have a first side rested on the horizontal portions 11 and
a contact portion 22 extends from a top edge of a second side
thereof and the contact portion 22 is in contact with the underside
of the top 10.
[0014] The bush 30 is made by metal and has a tapered inside and a
tapered outside. The bush 30 extends through the hole 211 in the
corresponding frame 20 and a cushion lip 32 extends inclinedly from
a periphery of a top of the bush 30. The cushion lip 32 is in
contact with the underside of the top 10. A flange 33 extends from
a periphery of a bottom of the bush 30 and is fixed to an underside
of the frame 20 by welding or glue. Each bush 30 includes a
plurality of reinforcement ribs 31 extending radially from the
tapered outside thereof.
[0015] The securing sleeve 40 is made by plastic material and
force-fitted with the tapered inside of the bush 30 and the leg 50
is securely engaged with an inside of the securing sleeve 40. Each
of the securing sleeves 40 includes a plurality of engaging
portions 42 extending from an inside thereof and each of the legs
50 includes a plurality of grooves 51 defined in an outside
thereof, the engaging portions 42 are engaged with the grooves 51.
The inside of each of the securing sleeves 40 has even diameter so
that the leg 50 has an even diameter. The inside of the securing
sleeve 40 can also be tapered and the legs 50 have a tapered
outside. As shown in FIG. 5, a positioning bolt 60 may extend
through the frame 20 and contacts the outside of the bush 30 to
further position the bush 30.
[0016] The table assembly is easily assembled and dis-assembled.
The engagement between the tapered securing sleeves 40 and the
tapered bushes 30 securely position the legs 50 so that the
assembly is secured and reliable. The cushion lip 32 of each bush
30 provides a proper cushion feature when a heavy load is put on
the top so as to properly protect the legs 50.
[0017] While we have shown and described the embodiment in
accordance with the present invention, it should be clear to those
skilled in the art that further embodiments may be made without
departing from the scope of the present invention.
