Carrying handle of luggage
Abstract
Either end unit of carrying handle of luggage comprises a
joining member including a horizontal section having a first hole,
a body including a slot for receiving the horizontal section, a
second hole penetrated the slot so that a rivet is driven through
the aligned first and second holes into the luggage, a widthwise
groove, and a third hole so that another rivet is driven through
the third hole into the luggage, an abutment plate including an
upward projection, a widthwise protrusion on a bottom, the
protrusion being fitted into the groove for holding the abutment
plate on the body in place, and widthwise ridges, and a cover
including an opening and widthwise slits. The cover is slid onto
the body until being stopped by the joining member for covering the
rivet with the projection exposed from the opening and the ridges
projected from the slits for fastening.

Description
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0001] 1. Field of the Invention
[0002] The present invention relates to carrying handle of luggage
and more particularly to such a carrying handle having improved end
units joined a luggage shell.
[0003] 2. Description of Related Art
[0004] A conventional carrying handle of luggage comprises two end
units B joined a top of luggage L by two rivets R as shown in FIG.
6. But this is unsatisfactory for the purpose of which the
invention is concerned for the following reasons: The exposed heads
of the rivets R are not aesthetic. Also, it is difficult or even
impossible of forming or printing a logo or the like on a top of
the end units B. Another conventional carrying handle of luggage is
shown in FIG. 7. It can overcome the above drawbacks of being
unaesthetic and difficult or impossible of forming or printing a
logo on the end units B. However, the logo may be obscured by
rubbing after a period of time of use. Moreover, the threaded
securing of the end units B to the luggage L by two screws S
involves destructive drilling of both the end units B and the
luggage L by shanks B1. This is not desirable. Also, the threaded
securing is not reliable. It is typical that the screws S may
loosen after a period of time of use. Thus, the need for
improvement still exists.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0005] It is an object of the present invention to provide a
carrying handle having two end units mounted on a luggage, either
end unit comprising a metal joining member including an upwardly
inclined loop with a strap of the carrying handle looped around,
and a horizontal section having a first hole; a plastic body having
a section of substantially T and including a slot at one end for
receiving the horizontal section, a second hole penetrated the
slot, the second hole being aligned with the first hole so that a
first fastener is adapted to drive through the first and second
holes into the luggage, a widthwise element, and a third hole
proximate the other end so that a second fastener is adapted to
drive through the third hole into the luggage; a plastic abutment
plate including an upward projection proximate one end, a widthwise
mated element on a bottom, the mated element being fitted into the
element for holding the abutment plate on the body in place, and a
plurality of widthwise ridges proximate the other end; and a cover
having a section of substantially n and including an opening
proximate one end and a plurality of widthwise slits proximate the
other end; wherein the cover is adapted to slide onto the body
until being stopped by the loop for covering the fasteners with the
projection exposed from the opening and the ridges projected from
the slits so as to secure the cover onto the abutment plate and the
body.
[0006] In one aspect of the present invention either the element is
a protrusion and the mated element is a groove or the element is a
groove and the mated element is a protrusion.
[0007] In another aspect of the present invention each of the
fasteners is a rivet.
[0008] In a further aspect of the present invention the horizontal
section is integrally formed with the slot.
[0009] In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the
abutment plate and the cover can be used in different color so as
to obviously and readily demonstrate the colorful logo projected
from the top of the cover at one time injection molding without
need a series of color logo processing procedures.
[0010] In a still further aspect of the present invention the
improved configuration of the end unit will contribute to an easily
assembling, a low-cost manufacture, and an aesthetic
appearance.
[0011] The above and other objects, features and advantages of the
present invention will become apparent from the following detailed
description taken with the accompanying drawings.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[0019] Referring to FIGS. 1 to 5, there is shown a carrying handle
having two end units 10 mounted on a top of luggage 100 in
accordance with the invention. Either end unit 10 comprises a
joining member 11, a body 12, a cover 14, and an abutment plate 15.
Each component will be described in detail below.
[0020] The joining member 11 is formed of metal (e.g., zinc alloy,
copper and aluminium alloy, or the like) and comprises an upwardly
inclined loop 110 for enclosing a rectangular opening 113 with
strap looped around, and a horizontal section 111 having a staged
hole 112. The rectangular, flat body 12 has a section of
substantial "T" and is formed of plastic material. The body 12
comprises a slot 120 at one end for receiving the horizontal
section 111, a first staged hole 122 penetrated the slot 120, the
hole 122 being aligned with the hole 112 so that a rivet 13 is able
to drive through both the holes 122 and 112 into the luggage 100
for fastening, a widthwise groove 123 in about center portion
thereof, and a second staged hole 124 proximate the other end so
that another rivet 13 is able to drive through the hole 124 into
the luggage 100 for fastening. In another embodiment, the
horizontal section 111 is integrally formed with the slot 120 by
injection molding.
[0021] The rectangular, thin abutment plate 15 is formed of plastic
material and comprises an upward projection 152 proximate one end,
a central, widthwise protrusion 153 on the bottom, the protrusion
153 being snugly fitted into the groove 123 for holding the
abutment plate 15 on the body 12 in place (i.e., the abutment plate
15 and the body 12 are substantially fastened together), and three
widthwise ridges 154 of different lengths proximate the other end.
The rectangular cover 14 has a section of substantial "n" and is
formed of metal (e.g., zinc alloy, copper and aluminium alloy, or
the like) and comprises an opening 142 proximate one end and three
widthwise parallel slits 144 proximate the other end.
[0022] The substantial "n" section of cover 14 is adapted to slide
onto the substantial "T" section of the body 12 until being stopped
by the loop 110 so as to cover the unsightly rivets 13. At this
position, the projection 152 is exposed from the opening 142 and
the ridges 154 are snugly projected from the slits 144 so as to
secure the cover 14 onto the abutment plate 15 and the body 12.
[0023] The logo consists of the projection 152 and the ridges 154
in the embodiment, while it is appreciated by those skilled in the
art that the logo may have other shape in any other embodiments
without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention. Thus,
associated components of the logo such as the ridges 154, the slits
144, the projection 152, and the opening 142 (i.e., the abutment
plate 15 and the cover 14) are required to modify in order to form
the desired logo. In another embodiment, the locations of the
protrusion 153 and the groove 123 are also exchanged. In addition,
in the preferred embodiment, the abutment plate 15 and the cover 14
are always used in different color so as to obviously and readily
demonstrate the colorful logo projected from the top of the cover
14 at one time injection molding without need a series of color
logo processing procedures. Thus, the improved configuration of the
end unit 10 in accordance with contributes to an easily assembling,
a low-cost manufacture, and an aesthetic appearance.
[0024] While the invention herein disclosed has been described by
means of specific embodiments, numerous modifications and
variations could be made thereto by those skilled in the art
without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention set
forth in the claims.
