Description

FIELD OF THE INVENTION

[0001] This invention relates to a display mount, and more particularly to a display mount for mounting a flat panel display on a hanging surface.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0002] With the developments of the flat panel displays, such as the liquid crystal display (LCD) and the plasma display panel (PDP), people's requirements for televisions have been greatly satisfied, since the flat panel display televisions are much thinner and lighter than the conventional CRT televisions and can be made in much larger sizes. Therefore, the flat panel display televisions are progressively gaining popularity throughout the marketplace, and the recreational values thereof are increasing for the reason that they are easily shown up in a wide variety of viewing areas, for example, public places, boardrooms, family rooms, kitchens, bathrooms and vehicles. Accordingly, the mounting devices for the flat panel display televisions need to be provided and well-designed for fitting different environments of the viewing areas.

[0003] Please refer to FIG. 1 showing a display mount with a display according to the prior art. The display mount comprises a fixing arm 11 for fixing to a ceiling 12 and a suspending arm 13 for suspending a flat panel display television 14. The suspending arm 13 is first attached to an adapter plate 15 via screws 16 and then the adapter plate 15 is attached to the back of the television 14 via screws 17. In addition, plural clips 18 are disposed on the back of the television 14 and the ceiling 12 for securing the power cord 19 of the television 14.

[0004] However, since the above display mount of the prior art employs an adapter plate 15 to attach the television 14, the supporting weight of the display mount is increased, which causes a heavier loading to the display mount. Further, if any one of the screws 16, which are used to fix the suspending arm 13 and the adapter plate 15, and the screws 17, which are used to fix the adapter plate 15 and the television 14, is loosened, the television 14 may fall down and cause damages. In addition, since the display mount does not posses any structure for securing the power cord 19 of the television 14, the power cord 19 may hang down outside the television 14 and have a disorderly appearance, or additional elements, such as the clips 18, are needed to secure the power cord 19. Moreover, since the television may be mounted in various places, the angle of the television has to be adjusted to obtain an optimal viewing angle, and thus an improved hinge structure is required for the display mount so as to position the television at the most optimal viewing position.

[0005] Therefore, it is needed to provide a display mount for mounting a flat panel display which can overcome the disadvantages of the prior art as described above.

[0019] The present invention relates to a display mount for mounting a flat panel display, such as a liquid crystal display (LCD) or a plasma display panel (PDP), on a hanging surface. Please refer to FIGS. 2(a) to 2(c) showing the display mount in a viewing position according to the preferred embodiment of the present invention, in which FIG. 2(b) is the bottom view of the display mount in FIG. 2(a), and FIG. 2(c) is the right side view of the display mount in FIG. 2(a). The display mount comprises a fixing arm 21, a suspending arm 22 and a hinge assembly 23. The fixing arm 21 is used for fixing to a hanging surface, such as a wall, a ceiling, a roof, a cabinet, a shelf, or any other applicable surface which can be used for hanging the display. The fixing arm 21 has plural holes 211 so that the fixing arm 21 can be fixed to the hanging surface via screws. The suspending arm 22 is used for suspending the display and has plural holes 221, which are VESA compliant, so that the suspending arm 22 can directly attach the display via screws without needing an adapter plate.

[0020] Since the display is usually disposed in an open environment, if the power cord is hanged down outside the coverage area of the display, it would cause a disorderly appearance. Therefore, to overcome this problem, the display mount of the present invention further comprises a power cord securing device. The power cord securing device comprises plural hooks on the fixing arm 21 and the suspending arm 22 respectively. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the fixing arm 21 comprises three hooks 212, 213 and 214, in which the adjacent hooks 212 and 213, or 213 and 214, are toward opposite directions, as shown in FIG. 3, so that the power cord 32 and TV cable 33 or other video device cables of the display 31 can be well secured via the hooks 212, 213 and 214. Certainly, when the power cord or cable is too long, it can be further wound on the hooks 212, 213 and 214. In the same way, the suspending arm 22 also comprises three hooks 222, 223 and 224, in which the adjacent hooks 222 and 223, or 223 and 224, are toward opposite directions, as shown in FIG. 3, so that the power cord or cable can be well secured via the hooks 222, 223 and 224. Certainly, when the power cord or cable is too long, it can also be further wound on the hooks 222, 223 and 224.

[0021] When the display is not being used, the display can be folded up and safely secured on the hanging surface. Please refer to FIGS. 4(a) to 4(b) showing the display mount in a retracted position according to the preferred embodiment of the present invention, in which FIG. 4(b) is the bottom view of the display mount in FIG. 4(a). [0022] In an embodiment, the fixing arm 21 is formed integrally and the suspending arm 22 is also formed integrally.

[0023] Please refer to FIG. 5 showing an exploded perspective view of the hinge assembly of the display mount according to the preferred embodiment of the present invention. The hinge assembly connects the fixing arm 21 and the suspending arm 22, and enables the suspending arm 22 to be pivotally rotated with respect to the fixing arm 21. The hinge assembly mainly comprises a bracket 231, a shaft 232 and a lock nut 233. The bracket 231 is fixed on the fixing arm 21 via a screw, such as a flat head screw 234. The shaft 232 inserts through the hole (not shown) of the bracket 231 and screwed with the lock nut 233. The hinge assembly of the present invention is characterized in that various washers are disposed between the shaft 232 and the bracket 231 and between the bracket 231 and the lock nut 233. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, two single-hook washers 235 are disposed between the shaft 232 and the bracket 231, and a single-hook flange washer 236, a positioning flange washer 237, a disc washer 238 and a positioning washer 239 are sequentially disposed between the bracket 231 and the lock nut 233. Furthermore, the bracket 231 is a U-shaped member having two forward extended side arms, each of which has a hole on it. Thereby the display mount of the present invention comprises two sets of the hinge assemblies screwed onto the two forward extended side arms of the bracket 231 respectively. With the above arrangement, the suspending arm 22 can be rotated between the retracted position and the viewing position, and fixed at multi-positions to obtain an optimal viewing angle.

[0024] In addition, the display mount of the present invention further comprises a swiveling hinge assembly. As shown in FIG. 5, the swiveling hinge assembly comprises a shaft 241, a carrying plate 242, a positioning washer 243, a single-hook washer 244, a disc washer 245, a positioning washer 246 and a lock nut 247, and is screwed onto the base portion of the U-shaped bracket 231. Via the swiveling hinge assembly, the display fastened on the suspending arm 23 can be swiveled to an optimal viewing angle, as shown in FIG. 6.

[0025] In conclusion, according to the display mount provided by the present invention, the suspending arm can be not only pivotally rotated with respect to the fixing arm and fixed at multi-positions, but also swiveled to an optimal viewing angle. Furthermore, the display mount provided by the present invention has plural hooks, so that the power cord or cable of the display can be well secured on the hooks. When the display is not being used, the display can also be folded up and safely secured. Therefore, the present invention overcomes the disadvantages of the prior art and possesses the industrial value.

[0026] While the invention has been described in terms of what is presently considered to be the most practical and preferred embodiments, it is to be understood that the invention needs not be limited to the disclosed embodiment. On the contrary, it is intended to cover various modifications and similar arrangements included within the spirit and scope of the appended claims which are to be accorded with the broadest interpretation so as to encompass all such modifications and similar structures.
