BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

[0004] This invention relates generally to the field of back brushes and more specifically to an improved cleansing brush with angularly adaptable head. Cleansing devices for helping to clean oneself during bathing are well known. Various types of bath brushes, sponges, lufas and the like are currently marketed for personal cleaning purposes. Also available are long handled brushes that help reach hard to get areas such as the middle of ones back, or, for older citizens, cleaning the feet. My former cleansing brush design which is covered in my U.S. Pat. No. 6,546,588 shows a configuration that includes an elongate handle having a flexible joint so that the handle can bend thereby allowing the user to reach difficult places such as the middle of ones back.

[0005] However my former design as well as other body cleansing brushes on the market have certain deficiencies. These include that fact that although the brush handle can be bent to an angle, the brush does not necessarily retain the angle during use because pressure exerted on the brush head causes the handle to straighten out. Additionally, my former design only includes one style of brush head thereby limiting the use of the brush to certain functions but not to others.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

[0006] The primary object of the invention is to provide an improved cleansing brush that has an angularly adjustable cleansing head on one end.

[0007] Another object of the invention is to provide an improved cleansing brush that has removable and replaceable cleansing heads.

[0008] Another object of the invention is to provide an improved cleansing brush where the angular adjustment firmly locks the head in the desired position, however where the head angle can be readjusted when necessary.

[0009] A further object of the invention is to provide an improved cleansing brush where one gripping handle is located close to the brush head for close cleansing and a second gripping handle is placed at the end of an elongate extension for holding when cleansing more distant body parts.

[0010] Other objects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from the following descriptions, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, wherein, by way of illustration and example, an embodiment of the present invention is disclosed.

[0011] In accordance with a preferred embodiment of the invention, there is disclosed an Improved cleansing brush comprising: a cleansing head, a first rigid elongate tubular body, a second rigid elongate tubular body, a joint portion, a first resilient grip handle, a second resilient grip handle, said joint portion comprised of a first disk member and a second disk member, said first disk member including an imbedded standard spring biased ball plunger assembly, said second disk member including a plurality of radially spaced apertures capable of receiving said ball, said first disk member having a centrally located aperture, said second disk member having a centrally located threaded aperture, said first and second disk members held together by a threaded screw, said first elongate body attached at one end to said first joint member, said second elongate body attached to on end of said second joint member, said first elongate body terminating at its opposite end in said first grip handle, and said second elongate body including near its connection with said joint member a said second grip handle.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS

[0012] Detailed descriptions of the preferred embodiment are provided herein. It is to be understood, however, that the present invention may be embodied in various forms. Therefore, specific details disclosed herein are not to be interpreted as limiting, but rather as a basis for the claims and as a representative basis for teaching one skilled in the art to employ the present invention in virtually any appropriately detailed system, structure or manner.

[0013] FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the invention

[0014] FIG. 2 is an exploded view of the joint assembly of the invention

[0015] FIG. 3 is a a perspective view of half of the joint assembly

[0016] FIG. 4 is a view of the removable cleaning head of the invention

[0017] FIG. 5 is a perspective view of a brush head version of the invention.

[0018] FIG. 6 is a perspective view of a sponge covered cloth version of the invention

[0019] While the invention has been described in connection with a preferred embodiment, it is not intended to limit the scope of the invention to the particular form set forth, but on the contrary, it is intended to cover such alternatives, modifications, and equivalents as may be included within the spirit and scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

[0020] The drawings constitute a part of this specification and include exemplary embodiments to the invention, which may be embodied in various forms. It is to be understood that in some instances various aspects of the invention may be shown exaggerated or enlarged to facilitate an understanding of the invention.

[0021] FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the invention 100. the invention is comprised of a brush head 26, a first elongate member 8, a second elongate member 20, a first handle grip 6, a second handle grip 18 and a joint assembly 50. first handle grip 4 includes an aperture 2 for hanging the cleansing brush 100. First handle 4 includes a resilient portion 6 that helps the user grip the device 100. Second handle grip 16 is located near the joint assembly 50 and can be held for cleaning areas that are in close proximity to the hand holding the invention 100 such as the torso or opposite arm. The fixed angle 80 further helps to reach hard to get at areas such as the middle of the user's back. Brush head 26 is comprised of nylon netting. the head assembly 110 can be removed by pressing spring biased button 22 and pulling on the brush head 26. The joint assembly 50 is comprised of a first disk 12, a second disk 10 attached by a threaded screw 14. FIG. 2 shows an exploded view of the joint assembly 50. Disk 10 includes a standard spring biased ball plunger assembly 28 that is embedded into the disk 10 as shown. An aperture in disk 10 is threaded. An aperture in disk 12 is a through hole that accommodates screw 14 so that it can screwed into threads 30 thereby tightening the two disks together. Disk 12 includes a plurality of apertures 34 as shown in FIG. 3. The plunger 28 can enter the apertures 34 as the user pivots the joint assembly by grabbing elongate member 8 in one hand and elongate member 20 in the other hand and forcibly pulling apart or pushing together the elongate members 8, 20 thereby changing the angle of the head 26 with respect to the handle 4. This configuration allows the user to adjust the angle of the brush head 26 but is held firmly enough when the plunger 28 is engaged in an aperture 34 the user can apply pressure on the angled brush head 26 without the second elongate member 20 straightening out in relation to the first elongate handle 8. FIG. 4 shows the brush head assembly 27 removed from elongate member 20. Button 22 has been pushed sot that it can be released from aperture 23 in thereby allowing the user to disengage head 27 and replace it with a different head such as the ones found in FIGS. 5 and 6. FIG. 5 shows a brush head 200 that is comprised of a molded plastic body 204 and a plurality of bristles 202. The stem 225 can insert into aperture 27. FIG. 6 shows a head that is comprised of a sponge covered terry cloth 302 held by a plastic base member 304. Stem 325 can be inserted into aperture 27.

[0022] The above description and illustrations show that the present invention 100 includes improvements that make it more user friendly. The adjustable joint stays firmly in place during use and the hand grip on the elongate portion closest to the brush head makes it easy to clean close in areas. The removable and replaceable heads allow the user to customize the invention to suit his or her specific needs.
