Adjustable waistrest structure of a chair
Abstract
A waistrest structure is intended to be incorporated into a
chair. The structure includes a waistrest pad and an adjustment
device enabling the waistrest pad to be moved away from or toward a
waist area of the backrest of the chair. The adjustment device has
two pivoting seats, which are fastened at an interval to the waist
area of the backrest of the chair and are provided with a pivoting
arm, a toothed wheel, a hinged tongue, and a recovery piece. The
waistrest pad is mounted on the pivoting arm of the pivoting seats.
The pivoting arm is located in a step-by-step manner by the hinged
tongue whose tip engages the notches of the toothed wheel.

STATEMENT REGARDING FEDERALLY SPONSORED RESEARCH OR DEVELOPMENT
[0002] Not applicable.
REFERENCE TO MICROFICHE APPENDIX
[0003] Not applicable.
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0004] The present invention relates generally to a chair, and more
particularly to an adjustable waistrest of the chair.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0005] The conventional waistrest of the chair is detachably
fastened to the backrest as an add-on. Such conventional waistrest
is apt to undermine the overall aesthetic effect of the chair. In
addition, the chair is not provided with a storage space for
keeping the detachable waistrest.
[0006] Certain conventional waistrest of the chair is movably
mounted in the interior of the backrest of the chair in conjunction
with a transmission mechanism. Such a built-in waistrest as
described above is ineffective in providing the waist of a person
with a sufficient support in view of the fact the moving range of
the waistrest is rather limited. In addition, the installation of
the transmission mechanism results in a substantial increase in
production cost of the chair.
BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0007] The primary objective of the present invention is to provide
a chair comprising a waistrest structure which is mounted in a
waist portion of the backrest of the chair. The waistrest structure
comprises a waistrest pad and an adjustment device enabling the
waistrest pad to move away from or toward the backrest of the
chair.
[0008] The features and the advantages of the present invention
will be more readily understood upon a thoughtful deliberation of
the following detailed description of a preferred embodiment of the
present invention with reference to the accompanying drawings.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SEVERAL VIEWS OF THE DRAWINGS
[0009] FIG. 1 shows a perspective view of the preferred embodiment
of the present invention.
[0010] FIG. 2 shows an exploded view of the preferred embodiment of
the present invention.
[0011] FIG. 3 shows a side schematic view of the preferred
embodiment of the present invention in combination.
[0012] FIG. 4 shows a side schematic view of the preferred
embodiment of the present invention at work.
[0013] FIG. 5 shows a schematic perspective view of the preferred
embodiment of the present invention at work.
[0014] FIG. 6 shows a side schematic view of the adjustment device
of the preferred embodiment of the present invention in action.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0015] As shown in FIGS. 1-6, a chair embodied in the present
invention comprises a backrest 10, and a waistrest structure
fastened to a waist portion of the backrest 10. The waistrest
structure comprises a waistrest pad 20 and an adjustment device 30.
The adjustment device 30 is fastened with a fastening plate 11 of
the waist portion of the backrest 10. The waistrest pad 20 is
mounted on the adjustment device 30 by means of which the waistrest
pad 20 can be moved away from or toward the waist portion of the
backrest 10.
[0016] The waistrest pad 20 is provided in the underside with a
support plate 21. The adjustment device 30 comprises two pivoting
seats 31, which are fastened at an internal with the fastening
plate 11 of the waist portion of the backrest 10. The two pivoting
seats 31 are provided with a pivoting arm 32, which is fastened
with the support plate 21 of the waistrest pad 20. The waistrest
pad 20 can be manually adjusted in position as desired. The
waistrest pad 20 is further provided with a waist supporting edge
22 which comes in contact with the waist of a person seated on
chair. The waist supporting edge 22 is intended to soothe the waist
of the person.
[0017] As shown in FIG. 6, the pivoting seats 31 of the adjustment
device 30 comprises not only the pivoting arm 32 but also a toothed
wheel 33, a hinged tongue 34, and a recovery piece 35. The tip of
the hinged tongue 34 engages the notches of the toothed wheel 33,
so as to locate the pivoting arm 32, thereby resulting in the
locating of the waistrest pad 20. In another words, the waistrest
pad 20 can be adjusted in a step-by-step manner.
[0018] It is therefore readily apparent that the waistrest
structure of the present invention had advantages over the
counterpart structures of the prior art. The waistrest structure of
the present invention is cost-effective and can be easily
incorporated into a variety of chairs, such as office chair,
recliner, leisure chair, car chair, etc.
[0019] The embodiment of the present invention described above is
to be regarded in all respects as being illustrative and
nonrestrictive. Accordingly, the present invention may be embodied
in other specific forms without deviating from the spirit thereof.
The present invention is therefore to be limited only by the scopes
of the following claims.
