Claims
1. Safety for bolt action rifles having a lateral safety lever,
characterized in that said safety lever comprises a safety
catch.
2. Safety as in claim 1, characterized in that said safety catch
comprises a lug that locks into the groove.
3. Safety as in claim 2, characterized in that said safety catch is
rotatable around a spring dowel pin.
4. Safety as in claim 3, characterized in that said safety catch
comprises a pressure spring.
Description
[0001] The present invention discloses a safety for bolt action
rifles having a lateral safety lever.
[0002] Bolt action rifles are equipped with safeties. For example
the Original-Mauser-K98-bolt action rifles are equipped with the
Original-Mauser-Safety. Said safety has an immediate effect on the
cocking piece and therefore locks the firing pin when in safe
position. Thus the trigger cannot be released.
[0003] In safe position the safety lever is situated on the right
side of the safety sleeve and can be moved to the middle position
and then to the left side into fire position. When in the middle
position the bolt can be opened for clearing but the trigger cannot
be released. However, in this construction it is considered
disadvantageous that the safety lever, which is moved over the
rifle, may collide with a low mounted scope.
[0004] Therefore in prior art a safety lever was developed which is
fitted on the right side of the sleeve and which can be moved from
the rear position, position SAFE, across the middle position to the
front position, position FIRE.
[0005] This allowed a very low scope mounting, however, it is
disadvantageous that it is possible to move the safety lever
unintentionally from the safe position to the front position and
thus making the firearm unnoticed ready for firing.
[0006] It is the object of the present invention to provide a
safety for bolt action rifles which overcomes the aforementioned
disadvantage.
[0007] The object is solved by a safety for bolt action rifles
having a lateral safety lever which is characterized in that said
safety lever comprises a safety catch.
[0008] The safety lever is situated on the right side of the safety
sleeve and can be moved from the rear to the front position and
vice versa.
[0009] In order to hold the plunger pin in position, the safety
lever may have two notches for insert of the plunger pin, which is
pressed against the safety lever by a pressure spring.
[0010] The solution according to the present invention has the
great advantage that the safety lever cannot be moved
unintentionally from the safe position to the front position, thus
making the firearm unnoticed ready for firing. This additional
safety is integrated into the safety lever as a safety catch.
[0011] In a preferred embodiment the safety catch comprises a lug
which locks into a groove in the sleeve of the safety. Further, the
safety catch may be placed rotatably around a spring dowel pin,
wherein the safety catch comprises a pressure spring.
[0012] Locking the lug of the safety catch results in the following
three positions of the safety lever. Front position: position FIRE;
middle position: position COCKING PIECE LOCKED, BOLT RELEASED; rear
position: position SAFE. The positions FIRE and COCKING PIECE
LOCKED, BOLT RELEASED result from the locking of the plunger pin in
the notches in the safety lever, the position SAFE results from the
locking of the lug of the safety catch in the groove of the safety
sleeve.
[0013] The spring load presses the lug of the safety catch into the
provided opening, here called groove. By pushing the furrowed part
of the safety catch downwards, the lug is lifted out of the groove
and the safety catch may be moved forward into the position FIRE.
The position SAFE can only be left by activating the spring load in
the safety catch so that an unintentional movement of the safety
lever into position FIRE is avoided. In order to move the safety
lever back to position SAFE, the safety lever must just be turned
backwards.
[0014] Therefore the present invention prevents an unintentional
movement of the safety lever into position FIRE in a particularly
effective and simultaneously simple way.
[0015] The invention is further illustrated by means of the
following drawings.
[0016] FIGS. 1, 2 and 3 are plan views of the safety each.
[0017] FIG. 1 shows the position FIRE,
[0018] FIG. 2 shows the position COCKING PIECE LOCKED, BOLT
RELEASED and
[0019] FIG. 3 shows the position SAFE.
[0020] FIG. 4 shows the safety in a rear view.
[0021] FIG. 5 shows a side view of the safety lever with the safety
catch in the position LOCKED.
[0022] FIG. 6 shows a side view of the safety lever with the safety
catch in the position RELEASED.
[0023] On the sleeve 1 of the safety a shroud 11 is fixed. The
plunger pin 10 is pressed into one of the two notches 13 of the
safety lever 2 by the pressure spring 4.
[0024] The stud screw 9 engages into the guiding groove 8 of the
safety lever 2, which is further guided in the sleeve 1 by the
pilot pin 7.
[0025] Depending on the position of the safety (ever 2, the safety
shaft 6 locks or releases the bolt.
[0026] Into safety lever 2 safety catch 3 is integrated, which is
arranged rotatably around spring dowel pin 5. Pressure spring 12
for safety catch 3 presses the lug 14 of the safety catch 3 into
the provided groove 15 of the sleeve 1.
