Claims
What is claimed is:
1. A point-of-sales box enclosure for disposable gloves of plastic
construction material comprising, in combination: A. plural gloves
of plastic construction material of a disposable nature after an
intended recommended end use, said recommended end use being
signified by color-coding of said gloves; and B. a box enclosure
having walls bounding a compartment for said gloves, said gloves
having an operative position within said compartment, one said box
enclosure wall being a top panel thereof, said top panel having
edges bounding a glove-removal opening from said compartment, a
removable panel of a selected plastic construction material
disposed as a closure over said glove-removal opening, and said
selected plastic construction material for said glove-removal
opening closure being transparent in nature; whereby preparatory to
a purchase visual observance of said box contents through said
transparent closure of said glove-removal opening is effective to
verify by the color-coding of the gloves the recommended end use
nature of the gloves being purchased.
Description
[0001] The present invention relates generally to boxed disposable
plastic gloves, and more particularly to the packaging noted used
both as point-of-sales presentation of the product and for glove
dispensing service after purchase.
EXAMPLES OF THE PRIOR ART
[0002] Dual purpose packaging for disposable plastic gloves is well
documented in the patented patent literature, as exemplified by
U.S. Pat. No. 3,178,054 for "Thin Flat Article of Manufacture"
issued to Lindecker on Aug. 30, 1963 and U.S. Pat. No. 4,997,105
for "Glove Dispensing System" issued to Fischer on Mar. 5, 1991, to
mention but a few. It is thus recognized correctly by the glove
manufacturer that the purchaser requires instructions concerning
use after purchase, such as how access is to be obtained to the
gloves, the removal of a glove one-at-a-time, disposal after use,
and so on. The instructions noted, while useful for limited
purposes, do not significantly contribute to future sales or extol
noteworthy attributes of the plastic construction material of the
gloves.
[0003] Broadly, it is an object of the present invention to
overcome the foregoing and other shortcomings of the prior art.
[0004] More particularly, it is an object of the present invention
to recommend in a product line of plastic gloves specified end uses
thereof, and to correlate these end uses with color-coding applied
to the gloves, using to advantage the display of the gloves in a
point-of-sales package or box and the capacity of the plastic
construction material of the gloves to assume an enhanced
color-displaying appearance, all as will be better understood as
the description proceeds.
[0005] The description of the invention which follows, together
with the accompanying drawings should not be construed as limiting
the invention to the example shown and described, because those
skilled in the art to which this invention appertains will be able
to devise other forms thereof within the ambit of the appended
claims.
[0006] FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a point-of-sales box for
disposable plastic gloves according to the present invention;
[0007] FIG. 2 is a similar perspective view of the box of FIG. 1,
on an enlarged scale, and illustrating further details thereof;
and
[0008] FIGS. 3, 4 and 5 are views similar to FIG. 2, and
illustrating the removal of a color-coded glove correlated to a
recommended end use of the glove.
[0009] In accordance with the present invention, there is disclosed
a point-of-sale box enclosure, generally designated 10, the
selected contents of which are disposable gloves 12 of plastic
construction material which the glove manufacturer recommends for
specific end uses, and notes in text, as at 14, or otherwise
informs prospective purchasers of these end uses such for by way of
some examples, for one use and then disposal after (1) a gardening
chore, (2) painting (3) food handling and the like, by correlating
these recommended end uses with color-coding of the gloves, such as
for (1) gardening, using the color green, (2) painting, the color
red, and (3) food handling, the color pale yellow, the hatching, as
at 16, of the gloves respectively in FIGS. 3, 4 and 5 denoting the
mentioned colors.
[0010] The box enclosure 10 has walls, individually and
collectively designated 18, bounding a compartment 20 for the
gloves 12, including a top panel 18A which is selected for the
imprinting of the recommended end use 14, and also has an oval
shaped edge 24 bounding a correspondingly oval opening 26. A
removable panel 28 of a selected plastic construction material
serves as a temporary closure for the opening 26, being adhesively
secured, at 30, to the underside of the top panel 18A over the
opening 26.
[0011] The plastic construction material selected for the closure
panel 28 may be any one of a wide range of plastics, so long as it
is transparent. As a consequence, and in accordance with the
present invention, before the closure panel 28 is removed, by being
slit or otherwise, to provide access for removal of a glove 12
through the opening 26, there is provided, preparatory to a
purchase, visual observation of the box contents 12 through the
transparent closure 28 which, in practice, is effective to verify
by the color coding 16 of the gloves 12 the recommended end use 22
of the gloves being purchased.
[0012] The verification provided as noted has minimized tampering
with the box 10 at its retail point-of-sales, as occurred when
verification was not possible in prior art packaging, and also in
increased sales since apparently for the two chores of gardening
and painting, by way of example, a purchaser will typically
purchase two boxes 10 by the color 16 in accordance with the
recommendation 22 rather than selecting only one box 10 of the two
color choices.
[0013] While the apparatus for practicing the within inventive
method, as well as said method herein shown and disclosed in detail
is fully capable of attaining the objects and providing the
advantages hereinbefore stated, it is to be understood that it is
merely illustrative of the presently preferred embodiment of the
invention and that no limitations are intended to the detail of
construction or design herein shown other than as defined in the
appended claims.
