Foot rest for stools
Abstract
A stool includes a post with a seat and a base respectively
connected to a top end and a lower end of the post. A foot rest
having a tube located at a center of the ring is movably mounted to
the post. A C-shaped secure bush is received in the tube and
mounted on the post. The tube has a semi-circular lip extending
from an end thereof and a secure piece has a fist end pivotally
connected to a first end of the lip. A second end of the secure
piece is connected to a second end of the lip by a quick release
device so that the secure piece pushes the secure bush toward the
post by operating the cam device. The position of the foot rest can
be adjustable by operating the quick release device.

Description
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
[0001] The present invention relates to a toot rest movably mounted
on the post of a stool and a quick release device is used to secure
a ring mounted on the post.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0002] A conventional stool is shown in Fig. q and generally
includes a post 20 and a seat 10 is connected to a top end of the
post 20 and a base 40 is connected to a lower end of the post 20. A
ring-shaped foot rest 30 is connected to the post 20 so that the
user may rest his/her feet on the foot rest 30. The position of the
foot rest 30 is not adjusted so that only the users who has long
enough legs can user the foot rest 30 properly. FIG. 2 shows that
two foot rests 30 are connected to the post 20 at different levels
so that the users can use the foot rests 30 no matter tall users or
short users. Nevertheless, the multiple foot rests 30 on the post
20 makes the stool bulky and the foot rests 30 increase the total
weight of the stool.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0003] In accordance with one aspect of the present invention,
there is provided a stool which comprises a post with a seat and a
base respectively connected to a top end and a lower end of the
post. A foot rest has a tube at a center there and the post extends
through the tube. A C-shaped secure bush is received in the tube
and mounted on the post. The tube has a semi-circular lip extending
from an end thereof and a secure piece has a first end pivotally
connected to a first end of the lip. A second end of the secure
piece is connected to a second end of the lip by a cam device. The
secure piece pushes the secure bush toward the post by operating
the cam device.
[0004] The primary object of the present invention is to provide a
stool that has a foot rest which is movably positioned on the post
of the stool.
[0005] The present invention will become more obvious from the
following description when taken in connection with the
accompanying drawings which show, for purposes of illustration
only, a preferred embodiment in accordance with the present
invention.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0006] FIG. 1 is a perspective view to show a first embodiment of
the conventional foot rest on a stool;
[0007] FIG. 2 is a perspective view to show a second embodiment of
the conventional foot rest on a stool;
[0008] FIG. 3 is an exploded view to show the stool of the present
invention;
[0009] FIG. 4 is a side view to show the foot rest on the post of
the stool of the present invention, wherein the quick release
device is not yet pushed to its secured position;
[0010] FIG. 5 is a top view to show the connection of foot rest on
the post of the stool of the present invention as shown in FIG.
4;
[0011] FIG. 6 is a side view to show the foot rest on the post of
the stool of the present invention, wherein the quick release
device is pushed to its secured position;
[0012] FIG. 7 is a top view to show the connection of foot rest on
the post of the stool of the present invention as shown in FIG. 6,
and
[0013] FIG. 8 shows that the secure assembly of the foot rest of
the present invention is installed to an underside of the foot
rest.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
[0014] Referring to FIGS. 3 to 5, the stool of the present
invention comprises a post 3 and a seat 100 is connected to a top
end of the post 3 and a base 400 is connected to a lower end of the
post 3. A foot rest 1 has a ring and ribs 15 extend from an inner
periphery of the ring and a tube 11 is connected to the ribs 15 at
a center of the ring. The post 3 extends through the tube 11 a
C-shaped secure bush 2 is received in the tube 11 and mounted on
the post 3.
[0015] The tube 11 has a semi-circular lip 13 extending from an end
thereof and a protrusion extends from a first end of the lip 13. A
secure piece 4 has a fist end pivotally connected to the protrusion
on the first end of the lip 13 by a pin 61 extending through a hole
12 in the protrusion and a hole 41 in the first end of the secure
piece 4. A second end of the secure piece 4 has a lug which is
connected to a lug on a second end of the lip 13 by a cam device
such as a quick release device 5.
[0016] The secure bush 2 has flanges 22 extending radially outward
from two respective ends thereof and the flanges 22 are engaged
with one of two ends of the tube 11 and the lip 13 and the secure
piece 4 on the other end of the tube 11. Therefore, the secure bush
2 will not disengaged from the tube 11. The secure bush 2 has a
slit 23 so that the inner diameter of the secure bush 2 can be
narrowed so as to let the secure bush 2 be inserted in the tube
11.
[0017] The quick release device 5 includes a lever 51 having cam
member on an end thereof and a rod 52 extends from the cam member.
The rod 52 extends through the two respective holes 14, 43 in the
two lugs of the lip 13 and the secure piece 4, and a connection
member 53 is secured to a distal end of the rod 52. The distal end
of the rod 52 has a threaded section 521 and the connection member
53 is a nut.
[0018] As shown in FIGS. 6 and 7, when pushing lever 51 of the
quick release device 5 to its secured position as shown, the second
end of the secure piece 4 is pulled toward the secure bush 2 toward
the post 3 so that the secure bush 2 securely clamp the post 3 to
hold the foot rest 1 in position. When releasing the quick release
device 5, the foot rest 1 can be movable on the post 3.
[0019] FIG. 8 shows that the secure assembly including the lip 13,
the seucre piece 4, the quick release device 5 can be installed to
an underside of the foot rest 1.
[0020] While we have shown and described the embodiment in
accordance with the present invention, it should be clear to those
skilled in the art that further embodiments may be made without
departing from the scope of the present invention.
