Claims

What is claimed is:

1. A new and distinct floribunda Rose cultivar plant named `ALTland` as herein illustrated and described.
Description

Latin name of the genus and species: Rosa hybrida.

Variety denomination: `ALTland`.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The new Rosa cultivar is a product of a planned breeding program conducted by the inventor, Peter Ping Lim. The objective of the breeding program was to produce vigorous new garden floribunda rose varieties for ornamental commercial applications. The cross resulting in this new variety was made during May of 2013.

The seed parent is the unpatented variety Rosa `Raspberry Vigorosa`. The pollen parent is the variety Rosa `RADTKO`, U.S. Plant Pat. No. 16,202. The new variety was selected in 2014 by the inventor in a group of seedlings resulting from the 2013 crossing, in a nursery in Vista, Calif.

At the time of this filing plants of `ALTland` have not been publicly released. The first sale is expected March of 2019 in the United States. Information about the new variety was published in American Rose Magazine October of 2017. This publication, however, was not accompanied by any public access to plant material.

Asexual reproduction of the new cultivar was performed by terminal vegetative cuttings. This was first performed at a research greenhouse in in Vista, Calif. in June 2014 and has shown that the unique features of this cultivar are stable and reproduced true to type in more than 5 successive generations.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The cultivar `ALTland` has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary somewhat with variations in environment such as temperature, day length, and light intensity, without, however, any variance in genotype.

The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the unique characteristics of `ALTland`. These characteristics in combination distinguish `ALTland` as a new and distinct Rosa cultivar: 1. Double pink flowers. 2. Vigorous plants. 3. Earlier blooming. 4. Dark glossy foliage resistant to black spot and powdery mildew disease. 5. Continuous flowering. 6. Plants do not require grafting to thrive and can be grown on their own roots.

Plants of the new cultivar `ALTland` are similar to plants of the seed parent, in most horticultural characteristics, however, plants of the new cultivar `ALTland` differ in the following: 1. Petal quantity of the new variety is higher than petal quantity of the seed parent. 2. Petal color of the new variety is lighter pink than that of the seed parent.

Plants of the new cultivar `ALTland` are similar to plants of the pollen parent in most horticultural characteristics, however, plants of the new cultivar `ALTland` differs in the following; 1. Petal quantity of the new variety is 70-80, petal quantity of the pollen parent is 23 on average. 2. Petal color of the new variety is a different color, red-purple with a white basal blotch, instead of red with a yellow basal blotch.

COMMERCIAL COMPARISON

Plants of the new cultivar `ALTland` can be compared to the commercial variety Rosa `Flower Carpet`, U.S. Plant Pat. No. 7,282. These varieties are similar in most horticultural characteristics, however `ALTland` differs in the following: 1. Petal quantity of the new variety is 70-80, petal quantity of this comparator is 10-15. 3. This comparator develops into a taller plant than `ALTland`. 4. This comparator has a later blooming flower cycle.

Plants of the new cultivar `ALTland` can also be compared to the unpatented variety Rosa `Nearly Wild`. These varieties are similar in most horticultural characteristics, however `ALTland` differs in the following: 1. Petal quantity of the new variety is 70-80, petal quantity of this comparator is 5. 2. This comparator has a flower with a white eye, not found in `ALTland`.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPH

The accompanying photograph illustrates in full color a close up of an individual flower, about 2 days old. The photograph was taken using conventional techniques and although colors may appear different from actual colors due to light reflectance it is as accurate as possible by conventional photographic techniques.

DETAILED BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION

In the following description, color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart 2007 except where general terms of ordinary dictionary significance are used. The following observations and measurements describe `ALTland` plants grown outdoors, in Palm Desert, Calif. The growing temperature ranged from approximately 10.degree. C. to 38.degree. C. during the day and from approximately 5.degree. C. to 22.degree. C. during the night. Measurements were taken in September. General light conditions were very bright, normal sunlight. Measurements and numerical values represent averages of typical plant types. Botanical classification: Rosa `ALTland`. Market classification: Floribunda.
