Each ellipse is tangent to its perpendicular neighbor and aligned by the endpoints of the major axis. Diagonal lines extend from each ellipse's focus points to the focus points diagonally across in the parallel ellipse. The lines are truncated at the center of the design on the edge of a circle of unit radius (relative to the ellipse measurement units) and also truncated at the edge of each ellipse. The circle outline is made visible by the eight line endpoints and gaps in between them.
