The lotus flower in the center of the heart is symbolic. A lotus flower starts out buried in the mud and fights its way toward the light. Only after it emerges from the water does it rise above the water and bloom. Children that have suffered through abusive situations are very similar in that they have to fight through the mud and muck of life to rise above and bloom; the text "Cherished Hearts" arched above the image.
